Photo - Prickly Flower

I was to the Muttart Conservatory to get some sun room bench pictures for my Fruits of the Spirit bible study. I am moving along with my pages. I captured this flower in my travels around the pyramids. It's so cool to go several times a year to see the different flowers in bloom as the seasons change.

Card - Father's Day

A card for my Dad. I like the earth tone colors of the designer paper. I layered a piece of pumpkin paper below the DP and smudged the edge with burgundy ink. Over that I layered a piece of acetate with the greeting. On the join I placed a length of 1/4" gross grain ribbon in a similar color and added a knot of green ribbon. A maple accent in the corner. A card for great guy!

Photo - Alberta Legislature Grounds

A friend and I took a tour of the Alberta Legislature Building today. It was my first despite having lived here for a long time. The rotunda is under renovations so it covered less than usual. On the right is Princess Louise Caroline Alberta from which our province got it's name. The flower was a gorgeous flower on the grounds. I caught a snap of the High Level Bridge Streetcar as it passed on the top level of the bridge. The weather was good and the picture taking was worthwhile.

Card - Lady Bug

This is the card I gave my sister for her birthday. I made the card 4.25 square. I placed a Sizzix wavy frame die cut in yellow gingham on the front. To get the thin blue inside frame I had to cut it with an Exacto knife. I glued a greeting on the inside of the card. The lady bug is also Sizzix. Punched some daisies in a couple of colors and adhered with a yellow brad. Added the lady bug's flight path with a thin black marker. I liked the primary colors.

Card - Earth Tone Collage

I made a couple of these. I cut strips of printed cardstock and created a collage with them. These were taped together and then embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. The element was layered onto a ginger colored card. I added some 1/4 inch gross grain ribbon in chocolate and spring moss. I created the greeting accent with QuicKutz square dies in small, medium and large cut in coordinating colors. I stamped the greeting in chocolate with a small clear stamp. I used masculine colors in honor of Dad's day this month. I have a great one!

Christmas Stack Class - Ornament

I created cards in hunter green and navy blue. The foil layer is a wonderful gold textured paper. I created 4 different ornaments with my Cricut: star, Bethlehem star, snowflake and tree. I discovered that open shapes work best. The snowflake needed to be removed carefully. I cut a gold buckle with a QuicKutz die. The ornament is dangled on a thin cold cord. To have the ornament hang flat, fold your cord in half the push the fold through the hole in hanger then pull the tails through. There was a good variety of colors/styles. Christmas Stack Class - Mulberry Poinsettia

I created a nice soft poinsettia out of several layers of mulberry paper. The pieces were die cut with a Sizzix die which cuts the 4 different layers. A large one is cut out of green to be the leaves behind the flower petals. I selected a burgundy card with a silver swirl decorative paper layer. The organza ribbon was added and glued to the inside of the card. The placement of the ribbon allowed the poinsettia to be centred on it. I used a pewter flower brad to hold the flower to the card. The other color combo was red with gold.

Christmas Stack Class - Clear Snowflakes

These are great cards. I found the snowflakes at a dollar store last Christmas season. I created greetings for the card that fit in the space to the left of the snowflake. The card is cut 11X4.25 inches and folded at 5.5". I created the colored solid layer to be just a bit smaller than the greeting and glued it to the card. I applied a large Zot to the rough centre of the snowflake and glued in in place. I added a small paper snowflake over the centre aligning the spokes of the snowflakes. I made 4 colors: red, navy, soft sky and mint green. Glue the landscape insert.

Christmas Stack Class - Acetate

We had a great Christmas Stack Class today. The great weather kept a few away but those who came got most of the their 16 cards made. The 4 different images were computer printed onto clear acetate. Then an appropriate decorative paper was selected along with a coordinating cardstock and ribbon. The velvet hydrangea flower was layered over the ribbon along with a small silk flower and a gold brad. Each card had a Christmas insert included.

Card Club - May - Bumble Bee

We had Card Club last night and had a good number in attendance.
This a great card. Very simple. I selected the cardstock to representative of the bumble bee. I embossed the bottom 2 thirds of the card with an embossing folder. I place a narrow gross grain ribbon jus above the texture. I had just the right stamp in my clear stamp collection. The bee is cut with the Cricut. The lines on his body were not completely cut so I had cut the side out with an exacto knife. I did not want to glue it down so 2 tiny brads on the head create the eyes and keep it to the card. I use Summer Sun cardstock for the class and it's a better color because it's warmer than this yellow.

Card Club - May - Tree

I selected the cardstock and the leaves of the tree to coordinate. I selected the tan layer to provide some contrast. The tree is a Sizzix die which I cut twice. The trunk in kraft is a full die cut then I cut the leafy part in green which was layered over the kraft piece. The tan piece was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and trimmed to size. The ribbon has a slider with the greeting stamped in green ink. The ribbon is brought through a slit in the fold. Makes a nice masculine card. I made some of the cards with same sketch and the red pick up truck I used back in January.

Card Club - May - Butterfly

I love this color combination. Some had pink cardstock and others the curry color. The decorative paper was created with a temporary stamp pad of Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo. Make your own decorative paper with a bit of ink from your re-inkers. The butterfly is a Sizzix die cut. I cut a second piece in black to highlight the body. Be sure not to glue down the wings and just bring them up on the crease a bit to have the wings flutter a bit. The greeting was in black and the brad on the daisy is black.

Card Club - May - Happy Father's Day

With this card there was the option of Dad's day or Happy Birthday. This is a versatile sketch because any color combination works. We had some pink ones, some green ones, navy ones. It works in landscape (wide) or portrait (tall) orientation by adjusting the greeting.
Embossed layer was the larger piece and smooth cardstock for the other piece. The greeting was raised with pop dots. The greeting was color printed in an coordinating color.

Cmas Card Challenge - June - Poinsettias

My Christmas Challenge for June is poinsettias. You could punch poinsettias like I did in an earlier posting, designer paper is an option, and embossing.
I gold embossed a Magenta poinsettia stamp on white cardstock. Then watercolored the flowers and leaves. Trimmed the poinsettia layer very close to the frame. The cards are green and I have added red and gold layers and gold embossed greetings with gold brads. The greetings were brushed with a bit of watercolor to soften their look.
