Scrapbook Layout - F of S - Joy

I decided to put on layout the things that make me happy. Ice cream, music, AFV, photography, sunflowers, the 4 seasons and Christmas. I chose a blue floral paper with glittered elements. I created a sunburst of yellow rays which makes the layout bright and cheery. I chose stickers and clear embossed color printed images for my pictures. The camera 3-D sticker was expensive but exactly what I wanted. I added my journalling along the edges of the sun rays. I put the words to a favorite song "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" and scripture verse on joy on the vellum on the right.

Photo Collage - Stained Glass

I attended a birthday party today for a great lady turning 90. She is spry and takes a walk every day with her faithful dog. We had a great family visit. The party was held in a church hall with great stained glass windows. I took several of them. The doves were a popular image and the sheaves of wheat is reminder of our prairies. I hope you enjoy the collage.

Cards - Thanks

A set of cards with a soft, pastel and floral look on ivory cardstock.

Left: I used a piece of floral scrapbook paper. This came from the Slab IV that Michaels sold years ago. Nearly 100 sheets of 12x12. That takes a while to use. I cut the rectangles with a QuicKutz nested set of dies. Stamped the greeting and added a small bright green brad.

Right: I used coordinating scrapbook paper and created a 30-70 split. I placed a coordinating piece of cardstock over the joint. I added 3 eyelets and stamped the greeting in grape ink.

It's good to be in the habit to say thanks regularly.

Scrapbook Layout - F of S - Love

I chose love of family, of country, your enemies and your brothers for my themes. I found photos appropriate to each of them. I drew the heart by hand and cut it out in 4 different colors. I chose to cut my journalling vellums in oval shapes. I am so grateful for Christian parents and living in Canada. Title is cut with the Sizzix Shadow Box alphabet.

Card - Angel Photo

This is a card I created with one of the angel photos I took this summer. I removed a few distracting elements from the photo. The angel statue was a brown color so I decided to convert it from color to sepia. The coloring helped to define the top of the oval mask frame I placed over the image. The card was printed on natural parchment cardstock so sepia was a good choice in that regard. The words were printed in dark brown. It was color laser printed.

Card - Sympathy

Another sympathy card. I started with a soft melon yellow card. I found a couple pieces coordinating scrapbook paper. I selected the stripe one and trimmed it to a rectangle. I used Always Artichoke to stamp the sentiment. I added a dark green scallop, a yellow layer then a 1.25 circle from a coordinating floral paper. I added a few swirls and smudged the edge of the card with Always Artichoke.

Cards - SCB Paper Strips

I needed a few cards for a quick thank you or thinking of you. I designed these cards. I started in my scrapbook paper scraps tray. I selected several in the similar color scheme and cut them to 3/4 inches in width and various lengths. I added a band of cardstock on the left with coordinating brads. Voila! I can stamp an appropriate greeting at the last minute when I come to use it. Works very well.

Cards - All Occasion

A couple more cards for my "ready to go" stash. I used cardstock similar to Crushed Curry then added a layer of Rich Razzleberry. I used a daisy punch to accent the decorative paper which was made with Mambo Melon, Crushed Curry and Rich Razzleberry ink. I added brads in coordinating colors.

Make our own paper to match exactly using re-inkers. Great fun and perfect for your next card.

Scrapbook Layout - F of S - Living a Fruitful Life

I start my Fruit of the Spirit Bible Study today. I will be posting my pages every week for the next 10 weeks. On my first page I created a vine and grape design. I placed each of the Fruit of the Spirit on one of the grapes. I punched my 1" grapes from several shades of purple cardstock. I printed the words on vellum, punched them out with a 1" punch then used adhesive runner on the cardstock and placed the vellum circles on top. I chalked the letters in my title and did a bit of journalling. I have saved the second page for photos of the group as we meet every week. I will do some journalling at the conclusion of the study.

Cards - Christmas

While working through some ideas for my Christmas Stack Classes I designed this card. I started with a deep forest green cardstock with a felt finish. I embossed the left side with a Cuttlebug folder. I added wide burgundy smooth ribbon with gold edges. This was a top fold card to allow me to emboss it the way I wanted so the ribbon was pulled through a slit in the fold at the top and taped down on the inside. I cut the JOY greeting from gold decorative paper with my Sizzix Shadow Box dies. Glued the letters down with DS tape. I added a bit of DS tape beneath the ribbon as well to give the whole accent some stability. The embossing folder affected the texture of the card stock it would have been better to use a smooth cardstock. I found sticking the letters to the ribbon was not the best idea. On my final sample I addressed some of those issues. I used smooth cardstock, decorative paper on the right hand side and a narrow ribbon as a transition from the embossing to the paper and letters. Now the letters were being glued to paper which work much better. I selected the cardstock based on the decorative paper. I have made some red and some green. It's a brigther card which I like. Cards - Sympathy

Several friends have had hard times in the last couple of weeks. I made a few sympathy cards to provide a word of support. I used Stampin Up Designer Paper which combined Kiwi Kis with Chocolate Chip. I added a greeting and brads in that on a white card. I don't know the companies which producied the flower and leaf stamps.

The four squares and matching window were cut with a Quickuts die set. I cut Kiwi Kiss paper then used Night of Navy to highlight the edges of the squares. Stamped the greeting and cut it out with an oval Quickutz die. Mounted those on a piece of Stampin Up! Designer Paper then onto a white card.

The pink card is scrapbook paper from the Dollar store. The same greeting in Chocolate Chip and die cut into the oval shape. I highlighted the edge of the background paper with an inkpad.

Card - Christmas 2009

While I was working on Christmas cards this year I realized I had not posted my family card from 2009. So here it is!

I started with Ruby Red cardstock. I embossed a layer of celery cardstock to about 1" from the top with Swiss Dots. I stamped a small greeting in the top left hand corner. The ornament was cut with a Sizzix die in same color as the card. I painted silver acrylic paint with a small brush on the hanger and the squiggly strip across the centre. I ripped to bottom edge of the celery layer. I slipped the ornament on the fibre making sure it will face forward and wrapped it around the celery layer just above the embossing and knotted it. Glued this layer onto the red card.
I made about 18 of these.

Photo - Angels

I have been taking angel photos for an upcoming project. I am working on getting better at using Photo Elements so today I combined those into a photo collage. I started the collage from scratch rather using a preset template. I really like the irregular frame I applied to the large angel photo. I added frames to the inset photos keeping with the soft green theme. I think it worked out really well. Take some time today to improve your skills in an area of interest. You can do it!

Cmas Card Challenge - Sept - Stars

September's theme is stars. They can be bright, shiny, glittery; over a nativity, leading wisemen; single or in a bunch. They can be traditional colors such as gold, silver, copper, yellow, or not. Here's the card a designed for this challenge.

I found a pattern in Paper Creations Magazine - Winter 2008. The piece of striped scrapbook cardstock is 3.5X4". I traced the half star on the back with a score line down the centre. I cut out the half star and was able to open the star. Using a full sheet label I cut a piece large enough to cover the cut star. It helps if you have a split in the release paper somewhere on the star. I glued that piece of label, paper side down on the back of the striped paper with the edge following the centre and covering the cut star. You have to make sure you glue it down very well all over. I would recommend pressing it a bit. Then I cut the label through the cut cardstock. Now when the star is flipped forward you see the release paper. Turn paper over and remove the release paper from the rest. Add a piece of doublesided tape along the fold and lay the piece of paper over the star hole. I then removed the release paper from the star and applied MS Green Agate glitter to the sticky star.

This image shows how it matches the glitter in the card stock really well. I glued a strip of the same paper below the striped rectangle and stamped my greeting in chocolate. Then this whole rectangle was glued to a chocolate brown card.

I made 6 of these cards.

Photo - Angel

I was on a trip for work yesterday and several of us visited a book and gift shop during our free time. I have been looking for angel images for an upcoming project and found quite a few in this shop. Here's one of them. I really liked the large wings and the soft green those in her dress!

Card - Birthday

I started with a brown textured cardstock. I layered at piece of leather look decoratvie paper in a burgundy color. The vertical piece is gold gift wrap and the accent has a color printed greeting on a burgundy scallop.

Cmas Card Challenge - Aug - Winter

I did change the category from Snowmen to Winter because I separated snowflakes from all the other winter images. This category includes snowmen, mittens, hot chocolate, sleds, ice skates, skiing, and a whole lot more. What will you use? Post your card link in a comment.

I started with a royal blue card. I ripped white cardstock for the snowbank, chalked it with a bit of blue, stamped the Pomegranate greeting and glued it to the bottom of the card. I stamped falling snow with White Craft Ink and embossed them with clear powder then added a few more with only white ink. The snowman is cut with the Cricut - Joy of the Season. I cut off his boots and hat. I used markers to color scarf, arms, broom, eyes and coal on his belly. I put a bit of orange cardstock under his head for his nose. I used a Zot to hold the red confetti star in the top right corner.



I made 5 of these.

Photos - World Wide Photo Walk

I participated in the 3rd annual World Wide Photo Walk on Saturday, July 24th. It was a very good experience. This is an opportunity for photographers of all experience levels to get together, take pictures, and share ideas. Forty of us met at Louise McKinney Park, walked through the Shaw Conference Centre, down Jasper Avenue to the Gibson Block then west to the Hotel McDonald taking pictures all the way. What fun! The weather was perfect.
Here's a few pictures from my day. The lily was part of the gardens with the Chinese Pagoda just to the left, the Bison metal sculpture is at the Shaw Conference Centre, the church dome is part of the St. Barbara's Russian Orthodox Cathedral in the Boyle Street area, and the light fixture is on the front of the Gibson Block building (the triangular one on Jasper Avenue & 96 street). I took the background image as well which is dried mud in a parking lot.

Card - DP - Birthday Card

This is a birthday card I made to coordinate with the stack of cards I made. I started with an Old Olive card. I applied direct to paper technique with my Night of Navy stamp pad to the card. Then glued the squares in a couple of columns. Stamped the greeting in the bottom right hand corner with same inkpad.

Left: Mellow Moss card with a piece of DP ripped on the right hand side. I assembled an accent with a stamped navy flower on a 1.25 circle, a mellow moss 1.38 circle onto a navy scallop. I placed it over a olive ribbon .

Right: Old Olive card with a piece of DP ripped bottom and a navy ribbon with a olive bit tied onto it in a knot. Added a green button to one of the flowers.
