I visited a local pond on Saturday with my aunt and we saw babies!

Here's one of the many we saw in 2 different families.  The light was great just before sunset.

We missed the most fluffy stage but we thrilled to see them and really close.
At the same pond this tulip was in prime bloom stage.

Great pink color taken against a large granite pillar.

This bright little things is a American Coot Chick.  I have never seen one before.

It has large bulgy eyes, a red beak, and a corona of yellow fuzzy feathers around its neck.

Mama Coot was feeding the 3 little ones.

This is a Red Necked Grebe.  They are quite shy so every time I focus my camera it would dive under the water.

I managed a couple in focus but there was a lot of flotsum in the water which is quite distracting.

The challenge on Flickr Macro Monday was Oil on Water.

This is something I have had on my photography to do list for about 6 months so I plunged right in.

The set up is quite involved and with a limit of 3 inches it was quite challenging.

I was able to change the background so I could quickly change the color of the bubbles.

Controlling the bubbles was a whole different story.

  1. Sylvia - ducklings are adorable, but the Coot offspring is a few feathers short of that … thanks for sharing the photo as I don't recall ever seeing one either! Surprised that tulips are still in bloom - wonderful for you. Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday and have a wonderful week!

  3. I think the flotsum adds to the story of your photo. Love your oil on water collage, too.
