Card - Photo - Frond

I needed a card for a couple who are moving into a new house this week.  It had to be quick so here it is.

I bought the set of A6 black cards and envelopes at Michaels the other day.  I had to trim the photo a bit but it worked well with this larger card.  This is a photo I took last summer at Muttart Conservatory.

Off to write my best wishes for this new phase of life for them.

Card - Challenge - Non Traditional Colors

I made this card for Holly Jolly's weekly challenge which is non-traditional colors.
I used cut offs from this card which was my blog Christmas Card for July - Angels.  I made the tree with the scraps from the angel's dress.  I mounted the 2 small triangles of this great Designer Paper from Webster Pages onto dark brown card stock and trimmed leaving a border all the way around.  I added a very small triangle at the bottom for a trunk. I needed a background and I decided to emphasize the star theme so I selected a star background but not a traditional Christmas one.  I chose gold card stock and embossed it with the Cuttlebug star embossing folder. I mounted that to my ivory card. I die cut a star from the ivory card stock with Sizzix die and held it in place with a gold glitter star brad. (recent purchase at Michaels). I added a SU! Tab punch in the dark brown folded in half over the gold layer on the right hand side.  I stamped my greeting in Chocolate Chip on the same ivory card stock and punched it with the SU Word Window punch. I mounted it with 3D foam across the tab punchie.

Card - Challenge - Sketch 200

I created this card for the Clean and Simple Cards Sketch #200.
I started with a 5x5" off white card. I added a layer of a burgundy card stock. I created the greeting layer with a cut off piece from the off white 8.5x11 paper.  I used the SU! Scallop Trim Border punch on both edges.  I then placed a piece of wide burgundy gross grain ribbon over the scallop edged layer. I taped the ends behind the scallop edge piece. I stamped the greeting with a Hero Arts stamp with Versafine Onyx on another scrap of off white card stock. It was mounted onto the ribbon with 3D foam tape.  I placed 3 prima paper flowers over top and 3 below the greeting layer in pink and off white. The flowers are held in place with tiny black brads to which a white sequin has been added.

Card - Challenge - Window

I made this card for this week's challenge on Sparkles Christmas Card Challenge #34 which is windows.
I've had my Madison Window die for a couple of months but I have not used it, so today was the day.  I bought the Designer Paper from American Crafts - Camping Trails with the window in mind.  I wanted to create a horizon of trees. I cut a snowbank in ivory which I placed near the bottom of the window.  I cut the window in white and edged it with a Chocolate Chip ink pad.  I stamped the greeting in Chocolate Chip on the same card stock and punch it with the SU! Word Window punch.  To create the wall for the window I placed some dark brown paper on the bottom of the card.  I created the stripes on the top of the card with SU! retired border stamp and CC ink.  I found a blue strip of card stock that worked with the blue in the DP and used it over the join of this 2 elements.  I mounted my window with 3D foam tape onto by DP element.  I created a wreath for the window which was just the right size so that is a keeper.  Check out this posting for instructions.  I added a small 5 petal punch in the same blue card stock and glued it to the wreath.  I placed a round of 3D foam in the centre cross brace of the window to keep it at the same level as the frame. I added a small rhinestone to the centre of the flower just to add a bit of bling.

How To: Simple Wreath with punches

I wanted a simple wreath for the card I made today. The dies I had were way too big so I had to come up with something.  I had seen this idea some where a while back.  I used SU! punches for this one but I expect SB Nestabilities could be used as well depending on the size of wreath you need.
In a scrap I punched the 1.25" circle punch.  Turning my scallop punch over and aligning it over the circle I punched the scallop.  This creates a very nice simple wreath.
I was exactly what I needed for my card!

Card - Challenge - Sketch

I created this card for a sketch challenge on Clean & Simple Cards FTL199.
I started with the small handmade paper flowers in 3 shades of turquoise.  I then added the larger white silk flowers and 3 tiny white brads. I selected a turquoise card to match the tiny flowers.  I found a pink layer and embossed it with the Sizzix Sugar embossing folder. The pink was layered to a white layer just a bit wider. This was adhered to the turquoise card. I layered the small turquoise onto the larger white and attached them to the card with the tiny brads. It has a great tropical feel.
I decided against a greeting.

Card - Challenge - Embossing

I created this card for a couple of Challenges - Emboss Resist and Heat Embossing.
I started by stamping the winter scene by Stamp Barn on white card stock with SU Craft White and clear embossing it.  I then put blue watercolor over the whole image.  Once dry I cut it down to just outside the frame.  I mounted this onto black card stock.  This was layered onto an CB Snowflake embossed layer.  I wrapped blue gross grain ribbon across the embossed layer then taped the ends to the back.  I then placed my winter scene onto this layer.  This accent was then added to a blue card.  I added a MS  snowflake punchie held in place with a black brad.  I stamped the greeting with a clear stamp in black Versafine below.
Submitted to Sparkles Christmas Challenge and Holly Jolly.

Card - CCAYR - Poinsettia

I created this card for the July challenge at Christmas Cards All Year Round which was poinsettias and/or holly.
I chose a green card to complement with my red velvet poinsettia.  I added a layer of silver medallion embossed handmade paper.  I then added the wide red gross grain ribbon just offset from the centre line.  The ends were taped to the inside of the card.  I layered a silver daisy confetti, then a white silk flower then a red poinsettia which are all held in place with a silver brad.  I used a push pin to make the hole for the brad.  I cut a SU Decorative Label punchie in the same card stock as the card.  I layered a color printed greeting which was cut with SB Nestabilities onto it.  This accent was mounted above the poinsettia focal element with 3D foam tape.

Card - Sketch Challenge - Red felt

I made this card for Sparkles Christmas Card Challenge #32 which was a sketch challenge.
I started with the felt snowflake ornament.  I found the designer paper to go with the red in the ornament.  I selected a white card no make sure I didn't fight with the reds I already had.  I added the band of green and the greeting.  It still needed something more so I added a strip of red music (left over from last card). That did the trick.  The greeting was color printed on cardstock and punched with the SU Word Window punch and layered onto a SU Modern Label punchie.  The ornament is held in place with a tiny silver brad which also holds the silver accent I placed in the centre.  A bit of bling to contrast the matte surface of the felt.

Card - Angel - Christmas Challenge

I made this card for Holly Jolly's Christmas Challenge this week which is Angels.
I cut the angel with the Cricut and the Best Images of 2008 cartridge. I cut the filigree layer in silver metallic paper and the layer 1 in black card stock. Once cut, I glued the silver one over the black one. I found a scan of the Christmas Carol - Hark the Herald Angels Sing - which I colored in red and re-sized it to fit on the card front.  Once I had decided on red, I added the red thread around the angel's waist. I printed the carol on white card stock and then trimmed it to leave a border.  I selected a red card to match.  I glued the song background to the red card and then glued the angel to the background. I added a bit of rhinestone on the horn.

Card - Thank You Card Challenge

I created this card for a Thank You Card Challenge.  I started with the designer paper which I cut with the SU! Apothecary Framelits.  Based on the paper I selected an ivory card and a blue layer which I embossed with the Cuttlebug Victorian embossing folder which was adhered to the card front.  I stamped the greeting in blue with the SU! Sincere Salutations stamp set then cut it out with another of the SU! Apothecary Framelits. I rubbed the edges of both die cuts with the ink pad. Once the large die cut was glued to the embossed layer I added the navy blue gross grain ribbon going from top to bottom of the card. I added a slit in the top fold of the card which I cut with an Exacto-knife. I placed the smaller greeting diecut over the navy ribbon with 3D foam tape. I tied a short length of pink ribbon on the navy one just above the greeting.

R2G - Designer Paper Band - Card kit

Another R2G card kit working with some SU retired designer paper - Good Morning Sunshine DP which features the colors Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point, Summer Sun and Chocolate Chip.
I started with a green card and added a band accent. The base of the band is deep blue to which I added a band of DP of small dots.  I wrapped the band with a piece of green satin ribbon which I taped to the back. Then added a short piece tied onto it.  This is double sided ribbon but I managed to get both green sides to show. I stamped the greeting from SU Sincere Salutations in green and punched it out with the SU Decorative Label punch. I layered this with another punchie of the deep blue.  The greetings is applied to the card front with 3D foam tape.

R2G - Designer Paper Split - Card Kit

Another card kit.  I wanted a versatile design that would work with  many different designer papers.
I selected my double sided designer paper then chose card stock that coordinated.  I cut it to 4 x 5.25" then cut it again at 3.5" to leave a piece 1.75".  The smaller piece was turned over to reveal the other design on the back. This piece was butted up to the larger and tape together on the back.  I then selected coordinating ribbon in white or ivory depending on the DP colors. The ribbon was laid on the join and the ends were taped to the back. The designer paper was then glued to the card front. I cut a label with my Stampin Up! framelits from the Apothecary Accents set in black cardstock.  I color printed my greetings on white and ivory and cut them with my CM oval cutter. I selected the greeting based on the color of the ribbon (ivory or white).  I chose 2 sentiments - Thinking of You and Just a Note for these cards.  They can be used every day for someone who needs a bit of a lift.

R2G Vintage Bee Card Kit

Another Ready 2 Go Kit. I found these vintage looking bee images decided to see what I could do with them. I cut the bee with my CM oval cutter. The black scallop was cut with SB Nestabilities die. I cut a 1/2" strip of black cardstock which was trimmed to the width of the background layer. The honeycomb background was printed on white is from http://leahhitchcockybarra.com.

I decided to offer 2 color options in this kit so some cards are yellow and some are black. You will see the design works both in landscape and portrait formats.

Card - Sketch Challenge

I made this card for a sketch challenge.  I selected a chocolate brown card.  I found some pieces of designer paper in my scraps bucket that worked together and cut them to 1.25" squares. I flipped the sketch to face the other way but otherwise it's a match.  I color printed my greeting on pink card stock to go with the bit of pink in the designer paper.  I flag cut the end and adhered it about 2/3 way down the card.  I found a green button and added brown thread and held it in place with a Zot.

R2G - Herald Angel Card Kit

Another Ready 2 Go card kit for summer sales.  I started with a dark chocolate textured card.  I added a brown/blue striped wavy frame cut with the Sizzix die.  I cut the angel from designer paper into a square to match the hole in the frame.  I color printed the greeting on warm blue card stock and trimmed it to 3/4" tall and 4.24" wide.  I then flagged the ends before I mounted it to the card with 3D foam tape.  I cut the star from the same warm blue card stock and mounted it to the card in the top left hand corner with 3D foam tape as well.  Check out my Christmas Card Kit Page.

Card - Felt Flowers - Exchange

I made these cards for my July exchange cards.  I selected a card that matched the flower color.  I added a white layer embossed with Cuttlebug Floral Fantasy folder.  I added a wide yellow organza ribbon to anchor the flower between the embossed layer and the card.  The flower is held in place with a green brad to which I added a white confetti daisy. Makes a nice monochromatic card!

Cmas Card Challenge - July - Brown/Ivory/Gold

This month's challenge is a color one - Brown - Ivory - Gold.
I decided on this angel.  I cut the wings from gold card stock with the Stampin Up! Elegant bird die. They need to be cut with the gold side facing each other so when cut creates wings for each side. I embossed them with the Cuttlebug Victorian folder.  I found some vintage looking Designer Paper (webster's pages - ladies & gents - Sunday afternoon) for her body.  I cut the dress in a triangle shape from the DP.  I punched a Stampin Up! Modern Label from a dark espresso brown card stock and then added a ivory greeting color printed in dark brown then punched with the Stampin Up! Word Window punch.  I punched the head with a 1" circle punch is the same card stock as the greeting.  The angel was then mounted on a brown card.

Total cards so far: 65
I think I will have to step things up a bit.
