Cards - Charity - IWin

I found out that we need a few more cards for our delivery to our charity for their work in November.

Since I have time with my one sewing project done I decided to spend some time on cards.

I used the Stampin Up Beautiful Butterflies die to cut the winged creatures.

For this card I chose SU Pacific Point card base in the A2 size. I added a strip of Rich Razzleberry card stock embossed with the DVine Swirls folder. It was adhered on the right of center. 

I added the largest of the butteflies cut from marbled paper. I added a hand cut body with marker antennea. I used the marker to add stitching along both edges of the purple strip. 

The greeting is the classic combo of the Modern Label punchie with the Word Window punchie. I will run out of these printed ones and I hope I have some rubber stamps I can use till I get a new printer.

 For this card, it was designed in the portrait orientation.

I added stitching using the outline of the off cut from the first large butterfly.  I then placed the smaller butterfly from the same marbled paper over it and adhered with double sided tape.  Added the antennea and body to the butterfly.

I added a strip of black card stock along the top of the card and mounted the same greeting combo which featured a purple Modern Label punchie mounted with 3D foam tape.

A white quarter sheet insert and a white envelope will finish each of these cards.

This card featured Night of Navy card base. 

The embossed layer is white done with a Cuttlebug foliage folder. It was placed right of center.

The butterfly was cut from commercial handmade paper printed with silver ink from India.

It received its body and antenna same as the others.

The greeting matches with silver printed paper. Word Window is black with coordinates well.

More marbled paper on this card for the large butterfly.  It received its body and antennea same as the others.  I added stitiching with a black marker.

The card base is Brilliant Blue.

The embossed layer is a piece of Whisper White with was embossed with the Stampin Up Script folder.

The greeting is the Modern Label with matches the butterfly and the Word Window in black.

White quarter sheet insets and white envelopes.

Thank You Cards - Finally!

I finally have most of my craft room set up so I could get some cards made. With seeing family tomorrow I pushed through to get quite a few done.

I created watercolor abstract art on a sheet of 12x18 inch Strathmore Cold Press 140lb paper.  I added salt in some areas.  I ripped my masking tape which held down my edges which gave wonderful irregular edges to my watercolor art.  Great idea. 

Left: SU Pear Pizazz green card stock in A2 size because I know where those envelopes are.

I ripped the bottom edge and added a sequin star in the top right hand corner with half of the one piece of 3D foam tape I could find.

Still stuff to unpack.

I chose blues - Prussian Blue, Ultramarine, and Turquoise along with some Sap Green and Cadmiium Yellow Hue.

Of course not all pieces have the same colors.

The card base is SU Night of Navy with a landscape orientation.  The right hand side ripped with an oval punchie greeting overlapping the ripped edge.

The A2 card base is SU Bermuda Bay.

I ripped the top edge of the watercolor and aligned the right hand edge to the card edge.

I chose to create a flower with watercolor and metallic watercolor around the dot of color left by a grain of coarse salt.

I added a line of pearl watercolor along the top and mounted a greeting over it.

Greeting is SU Modern Label punchie with a Word Window greeting.

Cards - Donation - Teacher Appreciation

This top card is a reused card front from a card I made long ago.  

It is another piece of marbled paper with added frame with metallic gel pen mounted on a grey paper. I trimmed the card front so I could clean up the edges and mount it onto another card. 

I chose a Stampin Up Blushing Bride card base.

I have beautiful origami paper pack brought back by a friend who when to visit her daughter in Japan. 

I chose an Old Olive card base then added a piece of Night of Navy seam binding knotted on the front and adhered it all to the card front.

 

This floral motif marbled paper just needed a focal point so I added a daisy punchie in Pacific Point with a gold sequin and blue tiny brad.

I added a narrow strip of the same blue card stock along the left hand side on card front then adhered the marbled paper layer on top.

These again have white quarter sheet inserts and envelopes.

Cards - Christmas - Night of Navy Snowflake

This designer paper is from the Season of Cheer collection by Stampin Up.

I cut the DSP to leave a small border. I strung these silver circles on navy crochet thread and tape the ends to the back. Then it was adhered to the card front with DS tape.

The ornaments were cut with the Gleaming Ornaments punch from silver paper and adhered behind the circles.

It makes them looks like light bulbs.

A seasonal insert and white envelope.

I was not fussy about the reverse print on this sheet of DSP so I chose the snowflake side for all these cards.

This A2 card base is Baja Breeze but it could have been Soft Sky as well.  I cut it to leave s small border all the way around.

I added an oval color printed greeting to the bottom left hand side to keep the warm blue corner visible.  It was mounted with 3 D tape.

A seasonal quarter sheet insert and white envelope completes it.

This is a similar colored layer as the previous one but on Night of Navy card base this time.


I added a Martha Stewart snowflake punchie made from 110lb card stock


I added a large blue sequin in the center. A tiny brad holds these to the DSP then that layer was adhered with DS tape to the blue card.


A seasonal quarter sheet insert and white envelope and these are done.


Glad to have a few more in the box.

Card - Happy Birthday - Night of Navy

A card for my brother who is celebrating a birthday this week.

I chose a beige card base with navy and red accents.

The red layer was embossed with a recent thrift store purchase.  See below.

I punched a navy 1.75" circle and added a 1 3/8 circle greeting on beige cardstock.

I trimmed the embossed layer to place the circle off center, then ran a length of Night of Navy seam binding along the left hand side.

I attached the 2 circles over the embossed circle and held them in place with a navy mini brad.

A quarter sheet insert and an envelope and it is ready to deliver. 

No company branding on these but considering that the price was 2 for $1 and I have all the Stamping Up circle punches and Nestabilities dies which will cut circles I decided that it was a good investment.

One is masculine and the other would work for feminine cards it was a great combo.

There is some room in the embossing folder storage box which is priority as well.

Christmas Cards - Watercolor - Siblings

I made some special watercolor ornaments to put on my siblings Christmas cards this year.  This is the first year that Mom and Dad are both gone. We are getting together early December for a get together which is close to what would be Dad's birthday. 

This is an ornament I designed myself.  You can read more about the process here.  The ornaments were cut out by hand.

All the designs were hand drawn then I used a permanent black marker for all the outlining.  

I used my Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Crayons for all the painting. The background is watercolor paper with a mixture of Always Artichoke and Garden Green.  I painted a wash on a couple of 9x12 sheets of wc paper.  I made it a bit darker at the top and lighter at the bottom. I did put salt on but it was not wet enough to produce much of an effect. When dry I added a spatter of Always Artichoke.  Once cut to the 4.00 x 5.25 inches I pained the branch and I spattered the pieces with Always Artichoke. 

The ornament has a Bethlehem Star in the night sky colored with More Mustard.  Some Elegant Eggplant and Night of Navy for the sky. On the snow banks in the foreground I used Marina Mist for the wash and Night of Navy for the contours.  Always Artichoke for the tree.

The card base is Elegant Eggplant.

A full moon in the night sky.  The moon is colored with Daffodil Delight with a light wash of Night of Navy for the sky.  I drew a house on the hills with was colored with Ruby Red and More Mustard for the windows.  Elegant Eggplant for the hills.  

The card base is Ruby Red.

This one features a sunrise which I had experience drawing when I did my glass art piece for the window a couple of years ago.

The sky is a light wash of Tempting Turquoise with the sunrise rays being first wash of Daffodil Delight, then More Mustard closer to the center then Tango Tangerine at the center. The hills are a combination of Garden Green, Always Artichoke. 

The card base is More Mustard.

I decided on a water theme for this one and drew a light house.  The sky is a light wash of Tempting Turquoise.  The lighthouse and rocks are done with a light wash of black gouache. The sea is Night of Navy.

The card base is Basic Grey.

This one here is a Christmas flower but I would not go so far as saying a poinsettia.  It turned out like a sunflower in the shape.  The ornament is Tango Tangerine wash.  The flower is a mix of Ruby Red, Bravo Burgundy and Cherry Cobbler.

This one features another Bethlehem Star in the night sky.  The star is More Mustard with a light wash of Marina Mist for the sky.  The mountains are 3 gradient washes of Elegant Eggplant.  Tiny black marker dots in the sky with a touch of More Mustard.

This one features a large star in the center of the ornament.  I did trace the shape from the Stampin Up Star thinlit set, using the smallest one.

The star was washed in Daffodil Delight all over then one half of the points was painted with More Mustard. The ornament is a dark wash of Night of Navy.

The card base is Night of Navy. 

Card - Retirement and Moving

 

I made a card for my friend who is moving away to be close to her daughter. She has had health challenges in the last few years.  Her husband has now retired and they are looking forward to a new life in this new chapter.  

I found a landscape graphic on line and a drew this composition from it.  I wanted to have a road into the distance with a prairie landscape as they move one province to the east.  They will be close to grandchildren and family. 

I drafted the composition with pencil and I used my Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Crayons.  I started with a light wash of light blue all over the piece of paper. I then painted the horizon line of trees. I laid a light layer of Always Artichoke. Of course, I needed it to have a yellow field which can be wheat, canola, barley, etc. I created a brown color for the road and painted it.  I had to be patient and used my heat gun to dry the layers before I moved to add dark elements to the sky, trees, road and yellow field. I love the pink flowers along the edge of the field.  Here in Alberta they would be roses but they don't bloom when the fields are yellow but it's my picture so I put them in.  It needed to have a gorgeous sun and a blue sky. 

Once I had my painting I scored a sheet of Baja Breeze card stock into a half sheet card.  I trimmed the edges to make sure it fit into my envelope.  It needed an anchor so I chose a length of Taken with Teal velvet ribbon and a wrapped on the inside of the card and brought the ends to the card front and taped them down.  I adhered the painting with 3D foam tape to allow space for the ribbon.  I pressed the card under heavy books for a few hours.  I added a white half sheet insert onto which I wished them both a happy new chapter in their lives.

Set of Cards and Greetings

I made a set of cards for my niece as a gift.  I chose designer paper and coordinating card bases.

The first 2 are the paisley paper with Kiwi Kiss, Soft Sky and Chocolate Chip bases with strips of Early Espresso and Choc Chip.

The bottom left and right are Basic Gray card bases with a coordinating designer papers. Featuring punched white card stock panels.  The punch is the Martha Steward Arche Lattice.

The top right is Old Olive card base with a coordinating designer paper with a ripped white card stock panel.  

The right is Groovy Guava card base with designer paper in soft warm blues and a ripped panel matching the card.

The bottom left took a while to figure out but found the card base needed to be Summer Starfruit. The designer paper is the same with the left strip turned to the other side. 

Middle right is a burgundy card base with a coordinating designer paper with a ripped white card stock panel.

The bottom right is Old Olive card base with striped designer paper with a ripped navy card stock panel.

The greetings included birthday, thinking of you in the colors of the cards I had made.

I added a pack of 3D foam tape to adhere them where ever on the card front she decided to use them.

The shapes included tags, circles and banners.

I hope she and her family will enjoy giving these cards throughout the year when special occasions arise and time is short.

This allows for a handmade card on a quick turn around.

Christmas Card Challenge - Watercolor - Ornaments

Another set of watercolor Christmas Cards. 

I wanted a branch with an ornament.  I put a wash of Old Olive green in the top right hand corner blended softly to the center and left hand side to suggested more tree.  

Once that was completely dry I drew my line for the branch with a pencil.  I worked with Always Artichoke, Old Olive and More Mustard. It was really hard to be loose and let the needles go willy nilly but it worked. 

Then, when the branch was dry I drew the ornament by hand with a pencil. I filled the ornament with Tempting Turquoise and Night of Navy. Card is Marina Mist. I added another layer of wash on the right hand side to suggest light from the left. 

I did the hanger with a very thin brush and Payne's Gray also lining the outside of the ornament.

On this card I used Elegant Eggplant purple color on the ornament with the same general steps for the branch.

I ended up with a harder high light spot on the left hand side which works better.  The darker side on the right hand side does not seem to be as dark as I intended.  Watercolor is sometimes hard to judge as it dries lighter.

I have used the color of the ornament to add spatter to the layer.

The card stock used for these ornaments is the back side of the Foil Joy cards I did last month.  It was a textured linen card stock.  I think it worked with the watercolor pretty well.

On this card I used Rich Razzleberry pinky purple for the ornament.

The pieces of card stock were trimmed to 3.75 x 5 inches before I started painting. They warped a little so needed to be steamed and pressed to flatten.

The ornament layer was adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape in the corners and a bit in the center.

I did add my signature on the original art after I photographed them for blogging.

Seasonal inserts and white envelopes have been added to the mix and they are sitting in the box for December 1st.

The color is Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder crayons and coordinating SU card stock.

Mom's Day Card

I painted a blue daisy flower for my Mom's mother's day card.

Her favorite color is blue.

I used a piece of 140lb rough water color paper measuring approximately 4.25 x 5.5 inches.  I sketched it lightly with a pencil and then painted it with my Stampin Up Wonder Watercolor  Crayons.  Using Marina Mist as the main color with some Night of Navy and some Not Quite Navy.   The leaf colors were Always Artichoke and More Mustard.  The center is More Mustard.

Once completely dry I traced around the flower and leaves with a black permanent marker. 

I mounted the flower onto a half sheet card of Marina Mist card stock.   I added white and medium blue seam binding below the flower by punching a slit in the fold then wrapping them around the card front and knotting in the front.

A white insert was added to the inside.

Christmas Card Challenge - Watercolor - Bethlehem

I was going to use salt to create the stars in the sky but when I looked for the coarse salt it was no where to be found.  I had to settle for Pearl White Acrylic paint.

This is the first one which I used Silver Sharpie for the star which did not do what I wanted.  I did the others in a fine tip Black Sharpie.

I added a tiny silver star brad in the center of the star to adhere to the card stock and repeat the star shape.

I used several colors of watercolor - a deep blue and a blue red so I achieved some purple backgrounds as well. I taped down the watercolor paper to the board to ensure they would dry flat.

Once dry, I placed them on the light table and traced my Bethlehem drawing in black marker.   They were spattered with the white paint and allowed to dry overnight.

I had cut the water color paper with extra so I could  could trim them to the 4.00 x 5.25 inches I needed. 

I chose card stock color to coordinate with the background.  I adhered them to the card front with double sided tape and the brad and pressed them over night.  I then added a seasonal insert and white envelopes.

another purple which was not Stampin Up for the card bases.

I still would like to try the salt technique so I will pursue the supplies for that.

2019 Cardmaking - CH - Class 5

I brought Stampin Up Card kits for the class today.

These make great cards for guys.

DSP - SU Just Add Cake DSP custom cut with Cricut The label die cut is adhered in the top half of the card.

Card stock - Stampin Up Early Expresso & Wild Wasabi

Stars - Sizzix Stars and Star#2 cut in EE and WW with tiny star brad. The star accent is layered as shown then a hole is made in the centre with a push pin and the tiny star brad is put through.  This accent is adhered to the center of the DSP diecut with 3D foam tape.

Greetings -  Early Espresso ink on Whisper White Decorative Label with a HB Stamp  The greeting is placed as desired on the bottom of the card and then the excess is trimmed off with scissors. 

DSP - I started with the Stampin Up Prestwick Designer Paper which features Night of Navy, Basic Grey and Garden Green. 

Cardstock - I chose NofN and BG cards and 2 of the sheets from the DSP set.

Greetings - I chose the HB greeting from the Four Square Stamp Set stamped in NofN ink in WW.  I currently do not have a 1.25" punch so I had to carefully cut them with the paper cutter.  I layered it on a 1 3/8 inch punchie of Garden Green. 

I placed the striped paper on the portrait of NofN and the plaid on the BG landscape card.  I added a .5 inch strip of Whisper White then added the trio of squares.  I swapped the DSP for the additional squares so the plaid on the stripes and the other way around.  All squares got a GG layer.  The HB square is adhered with 3D foam tape to emphasize it. 


Unfortunately I was not able to get into the building today so the ladies did not get to make cards.

Rise and Shine Tea

I started with a bright turquoise card.

I cut the sun with the Stampin Up Sunburst Thinlit from yellow Bazzil Textured card stock.  Trimmed to the edge of the card.

I created the sentiment with the words from the Verve Stamps Rise and Shine Digital Set free download during this blog hop.  I colored it with Night of Navy and punched it with the SU 1 3/8 inch circle punch.  I cut a turquoise circle with the 1.75 inch punch from SU. I cut the navy scallop circle with a Nestabilities Scallop Circle thin die.These were adhered as shown and adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.

I added a tea cup from the Stampin Up Tea Shoppe Stamp set in Night of Navy.  It was printed then I fussy cut around the edge and used an exacto for the handle. This was also adhered with 3D foam tape.

Tea for Two

I started with the sentiment which I had printed and embossed when I made my other tea card.

I chose to make it a Stampin Up card so I decided on Night of Navy, Old Olive as a color scheme. The sentiment is printed in Old Olive and is from the Tea Shoppe Stamp Set. It was clear embossed on the vellum.
I created a piece of background paper with the Tim Holtz Distress Stain - Crushed Olive mostly and a bit of Mustard Seed.
I cut a piece of Kiwi Kiss card stock into a large banner and adhered that to the front of a Night of Navy card. Then I trimmed the back ground paper and the vellum to leave small even borders on each of those.
I printed a cup from the Tea Shoppe Stamp set on Whisper White and fussy cut around the image with scissors and an exacto knife.  I adhered it above the sentiment with 3D foam tape.  I then placed double sided tape behind the cup and adhered the vellum to the background paper.  Now, I adhered the background layer to the Kiwi Kiss banner.
I measured the center and a point on each side which I punched out the side ones with a 1/8 inch hole punch. I cut a length of Night of Navy Tafetta Ribbon and tied it in a knot above the cup.

Wedding Shower - Thank Yous & Card

I attended a wedding shower today. I made a set of 24 thank you notes for the bride to be. 
Her colors were blush and navy blue so I chose those for the project.
I created the blush paper by brushing Tim Holtz Tattered Rose Distress Stain onto white pearl card stock.  The sheets were left to dry over night.  I was glad to see that the sheets were back to being flat in the morning.
I made the blush hearts with the Stampin Up! Sweetheart punch.  I was able to get 10 from a strip of card stock 2 inches x 11 inches.  I alternated the bumps to make efficient use of the paper.
The ivory cards have a gold foil greeting the center.  I used the SU Modern Label digital stamp to create the label around the words.  The dots are from the Lemonade Stand digital stamp set.  I printed the label and the dots in Night of Navy.  I adhered the hearts with double sided tape. 

I made a card for the couple.  I chose an ivory textured card stock for the card.  I chose the label from the Everything Eleanor digital stamp set.  I colored it with Night of Navy. 
The sentiment is also in the same dark blue.  I mounted another set of blush hearts in the center of the label. One is mounted with 3D foam tape to allow the other to easily be adhered behind it.
The shower was well attended and the gift table was overflowing with lovely things to get this couple started in their life together.

Printed Sticker Greeting

During my sorting out in my stash I discovered some clear sticker labels.  I inherited the cut offs from some project.  I thought I could make my own stickers.  I was thinking greetings in particular.  I'm not sure that this was as effective use of this resource but this was my first try. 

I printed the greeting from the Stampin Up Lemonade Stand digital stamp set.  I colored it in Night of Navy and placed a Summer Sun border around it.  Once printed I embossed it with clear powder.  I trimmed it to the yellow border with scissors.
I placed this on a piece of Whisper White.  I added a layer of Night of Navy then onto a card in Summer Sun.  I placed a piece of Summer Sun grosgrain ribbon across the bottom of the white.  I then added 3 yellow handmade paper flowers topped by lighter ones all held in place with navy star brads.  The stars a bit of a nod to the nautical theme in the inspiration photo.

Birthday Card Sister

I started with a Stampin Up Night of Navy card. 
I sponged a background on photo paper with a sponge and Island Indigo ink.  I punched the bottom with the Chevron Punch.
I cut the greeting with the Memory Box Jumbled Happy Birthday thin die. Happy in Real Red and Birthday in Tempting Turquoise. 
Adhered the background then the greeting words.  I used Quick Dry Adhesive for the die cut greetings.




This is a birthday card for my sister who celebrates this week and I hope the mail system will deliver it on time.

Missed the deadline for challenge at Fab Friday but I have put the challenge graphic to show the colors.

Night of Navy Background - HB Card

I used a background I created when working on this card. 
I smooshed Stampin Up Night of Navy ink onto a piece of photo paper with a wet sponge.  Once dry, I cut the paper down to 4 x 5.25 inches.  I adhered it to the Night of Navy card front.  I cut the greeting with the Memory Box Jumbled Happy Birthday thin die.  I chose Tangerine Tango for Happy and Certainly Celery for Birthday.  I adhered those to the card front with tape runner adhesive so I could easily rub off the excess.  I then above the greeting I added some handmade paper flowers in an aqua color topped with small flower sequins and held in place with tiny white brads.

Congratulations Card

I made this card for a baby shower I am attending on the weekend.
I started with a Stampin Up Night of Navy card.  I created the white spatter layer with a Night of Navy reinker, a drop of water and a toothbrush onto white photo paper.  I cut the large scallop at the top from Old Olive card stock with the SU Sizzix Big Shot Large Scallop Edgelits Die.  I wrapped a piece of Grosgrain Stitched ribbon in the NofN color. This layer was adhered aligned along the top of the card. I've placed 2 tiny white brads on either end to keep them adhered to the card front. I placed 2 lengths of Old Olive Washi Tape from the Santa & Co. Designer Series across the bottom third of the card.  I stamped the greeting in NofN onto white with the congratulations one from the Perfect Punches set. It is adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.  I adhered 3 buttons in Old Olive with Zot along the right edge of the white layer.

Sail Boat in Blues

I started with a Stampin Up Sahara Sand card.  I substituted Pool Party for Mint Macaron. I cut a piece of non SU shiny card stock which matches Pool Party to leave a small border. I placed a piece of Night of Navy seam binding on the diagonal on the Pool Party layer and taped the ends to the back.  I knotted a shorter piece onto it in the top right hand corner. I adhered this layer to the Sahara Sand card.

I created the accent with a piece of Night of Navy, a piece of Chevron pattern paper in Sahara Sand from the Adventure Bound designer paper pack.

I chose the Sail Away stamp set in Night of Navy onto Sahara Sand card stock.  These layers were adhere together aligned in the top left corner.
I tied some navy thread into the holes of the Pool Party button and adhered it to the bottom left hand corner with a Zot.
