Slow Stitching - Door Decor - Prairie Landscape

I am tired of seeing a snowman on my door so I made a new one.  I was thinking seasonal which nothing fell into that category so I decide not seasonal but just a bit of stitched art.

It is a prairie landscape with a canola field in the foreground with rolling hills in the background.  There is an agricultural building on the horizon with a big old sun shining.  A cloud and a few birds in the sky. 

Again, the art is 6x8 inches with a foundation layer of flannel. I did not invisible stitch because I did not want to change color of thread. I pinned it with applique pins and I put running stitch lines along all the top edges of the hills, the sun, and the small building.

I then started filling in the shapes with running stitch with same color embroidery floss to just create texture. A variety of green fabrics were used and cut with the rotary cutter. The yellow was placed in the front to which I added French Knots and Seed Stitches in yellow thread.  

I added a bit of bling to the sun with small metallic yellow E-Beads in a circle. I added a cloud and some birds in the sky.  

I cut the backer 8x10 inches from dark green cotton poly fabric.  Ironed the fabric to the front and folded it over to the inside to create the frame. Top stitched in dark green thread.  I hand stitched a hanger on the back.

Cards - Easter Watercolor

I created 2 cards from the watercolor I painted for Easter.

Rolling hills with a beautiful sunrise is the first.

I chose my Newton & Winsor small palette.

A blue sky with green hills and birds in the sky.

Painted on Canson Fluid Mixed Media 154lb paper. Works really well.

A tree on this one with a sun in the blue sky.

The card bases for these cards is Stampin Up Soft Sky in the A2 size.

White quarter sheet inserts completes the card and the addition of an envelope and they are ready for the card box after spent overnight under heavy books.

Black Marker & Watercolor

A landscape for today in the form of a desert.

A tall cactus is great for the desert.  A few rises in elevation. To top it off a little bird sitting on the top.

05 Hot Air Balloon

I drew a hot air balloon for piece #5.  The outline is black permanent marker. 

I washed the top third of the painting with blue watercolor then pull out the clouds with a tissue. 

I painted the silk part of the balloon in purple and yellow with a green stripe across in watercolor. I did a bit of shading with a very fine black marker. 

I painted the hills below in a couple of shades of green.

I know it would help to have people in the composition but I was too afraid to ruin it by adding them. 

Slow Stitching - Kite Coaster

I made this coaster for my sister who is celebrating a birthday.  

She likes to fly kites so I decided to put one on this coaster.

I cut a 4x4 inch foundation fabric. I cut my blue sky piece and then my felt pieces for the hills in green.  I cut a cloud. These pieces were basted to the foundation layer. Then stitched with a running stitch and a coordinating embroidery floss.

I cut a piece of interfacing for the kite and then cut the 4 colored quadrants and stitched them onto it. Once complete I stitched it to the coaster and added the kite tail. 

I chose a white felt for the back, white embroidery floss and the blanket stitch to hold the front and back layers together. 

House Cards

I created these cards for a monthly card exchange group.
I had cut a couple when I made this card so I chose to use the second one here.   The front layer was cut from white cardstock with the Folk Art Festival cartridge and the Cricut.  I cut the shadow from royal blue card stock.  I then layered a piece of red behind the heart and yellow behind the windows.  I created a hill with some green card stock which I just cut free hand.  I punched the sun from yellow using a circle punch and placing only a corner of the piece in the punch.  It needed something and I considered spattering but could not decide on a color so I chose pencil crayons instead.  I added some depth to the green hill and pulled some grass growing from it.  I created subtle clouds in the sky with grey and blue.  Pulled some sun rays from the yellow sun in the corner.  I added a bird in the sky with a black fine tip marker.

For this card I had printed this crooked house clip art which is available for free on several websites. I colored it digitally then printed it. I fussy cut around the edge leaving a narrow white border.  I create a grass layer with some ripped card stock which I glued down and trimmed to the card edge. I punched a sin with a circle punch and adhered it in the top left hand corner.  I created a sidewalk to the front door with a piece of white card stock cut by hand.  I adhered the house over the sidewalk. I pulled out the pencil crayons and added some depth.  Yellow sun rays from the sun, smoke from the chimney in grey, cloud was grey and blue, green grass growing up and a subtle image of a tree on the right hand side with green and brown. The embellished white layer was adhered to a navy card base which matched the house roof.

These cards are headed to their new homes today.
