Card Club - May - Bumble Bee

We had Card Club last night and had a good number in attendance.
This a great card. Very simple. I selected the cardstock to representative of the bumble bee. I embossed the bottom 2 thirds of the card with an embossing folder. I place a narrow gross grain ribbon jus above the texture. I had just the right stamp in my clear stamp collection. The bee is cut with the Cricut. The lines on his body were not completely cut so I had cut the side out with an exacto knife. I did not want to glue it down so 2 tiny brads on the head create the eyes and keep it to the card. I use Summer Sun cardstock for the class and it's a better color because it's warmer than this yellow.

Card Club - May - Tree

I selected the cardstock and the leaves of the tree to coordinate. I selected the tan layer to provide some contrast. The tree is a Sizzix die which I cut twice. The trunk in kraft is a full die cut then I cut the leafy part in green which was layered over the kraft piece. The tan piece was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and trimmed to size. The ribbon has a slider with the greeting stamped in green ink. The ribbon is brought through a slit in the fold. Makes a nice masculine card. I made some of the cards with same sketch and the red pick up truck I used back in January.

Card Club - May - Butterfly

I love this color combination. Some had pink cardstock and others the curry color. The decorative paper was created with a temporary stamp pad of Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo. Make your own decorative paper with a bit of ink from your re-inkers. The butterfly is a Sizzix die cut. I cut a second piece in black to highlight the body. Be sure not to glue down the wings and just bring them up on the crease a bit to have the wings flutter a bit. The greeting was in black and the brad on the daisy is black.

Card Club - May - Happy Father's Day

With this card there was the option of Dad's day or Happy Birthday. This is a versatile sketch because any color combination works. We had some pink ones, some green ones, navy ones. It works in landscape (wide) or portrait (tall) orientation by adjusting the greeting.
Embossed layer was the larger piece and smooth cardstock for the other piece. The greeting was raised with pop dots. The greeting was color printed in an coordinating color.

Card Club - April - Reused Book Pages

I have to say that I resist tearing apart books but sometimes they are beyond functional and reusing the pages is a good earth friendly idea.

The tag was cut from an old book page with the Sizzix large cresent tag die. I stamped the large U then embossed it with black detail powder. Really makes it pop. The greeting was printed on the same paper that was used behind the tag. The word was trimmed and tucked above the U. I added some black yarn. Remember to put the fiber on the tag before gluing it down to the card.

Card Club - April - Recycled Paper

This petal paper is paper I made with recycled white paper and grass and flower petals. I just ripped the edges of the paper to just smaller than the top of the card. I prefer to have a rough edge. I put the lower half of the card through a Cuttlebug embossing folder. Hot glue is a good choice to adhere handmade paper to the card. I found paper and ribbon to match. I created the flower with the Stampin Up! five petal punch onto which I layered elliptical shapes from the Stampin Up! lattice die. Held onto the card with a large white brad. With a slit in the fold the ribbon is placed over the joint between the handmade paper and embossing.

Card Club - April - Reused Foil

I bet you don't recognize the foil from a yogurt container? Yep.

I used spray adhesive to glue the foil to thin cardstock. The foil was then cut with the Sizzix circle die. The white and turquoise circles cut with the Creative Memories cutter. The foil and white circles were then put through different Cuttlebug folders. The cardstock was 4x12" with a score at 5.5 then at 11 which leaves a one inch flap over the top front. I tacked the circled together with a bit of glue then the brad through the daisy confetti, 3 circles and the card front. The accent was placed so that it keeps the top flap closed.
White daisy confetti is no longer available on the shelves at Michaels. I was very surprised that basic white was no longer available.

Card Club - April - Recycled Denim

Earth Day was April 22. I chose to give these cards an earth friendly focus where items were reused or recycled.

The flower is a creative use of old denim jeans. I used Sizzix dies for the flower, centre and leaf. The yellow and green fabrics are left overs from other projects. The gingham scrapbook paper was just what I needed. The denim colored yarn matched well and was stapled on. I added a color printed greeting cut with my Creative Memories oval cutter. I used a navy ink pad to smudge the edges of the card and greeting.

Card Club - March - Monarch Butterfly

This a great looking card. It has different fold in it. The card stock paper is cut 11 x 4.25" then scored at the 5.5 then again 8.25 which is halfway on the card front. I folded the short flap back onto the front towards the centre fold. I cut the scrapbook paper to the card front with a small border. I then glued the rectangle onto the small flap first then turned the card over and trim it even with the fold. Now the leftover is glued to the card back which creates a full rectangle on 2 levels. The black layer was designed to leave a even border all the way around. The gold paper was trimmed to just a bit smaller. This layer was then glued only on the left side an attached to the small flap. The butterfly was adhered to the gold layer with a Zot. Check out the right hand picture to see the fold.

Card Club - March - Ribbon Slider

This paper was purchased as coordinating scrapbook paper. The card stock is a nice neutral beige color. I cut the paper to the card front size then cut both sheets at 1.5 inches then just swapped the patterns. I placed a slider onto the red ribbon with a heart punchie as an accent. The ribbon is placed over the join between the papers and taped to the inside. I offered a red apple as an alternative punchie shape. We had several color options in this design.

Card Club - March - Flower Trio

The cardstock is a great denim color which matched the scrapbook paper very well. I repeated the lines in the paper by ripping the paper vertically. I glued the 2 pieces leaving a space of cardstock onto which to place my flowers. I punched 3 flowers in a color that brought out the golden yellow in the paper. I mounted the flowers with denim blue eyelets

Card Club - March - Shimmer Watercolors

We had a good time at card club last night. I wanted to offer the option of an Easter card if some of the girls wanted one. I chose this image with spring colors.
The central image is a color printed watercolor which has been shimmered with Perfect Pearls distributed with alcohol in a mister. The frame is created with 1" stripes of paper in coordinating colors. The girls had the option to stamp a "Happy Easter" greeting in a coordinating ink color on the horizontal strips.

Card Club - Feb - Star

The Olympics affected attendance at Card Club this month. We were few in numbers but I was home in time to see Canada win the gold medal in Ice Dance and the presentation of medals.

This card a bit of a nautical feel. I glued the insert into the card first then wrapped the ribbon around the fold and tied the knot and trimmed the ends. The star is a Sizzix die cut from textured card stock. Glued it to a square of great striped paper. The tag is color printed. Added a cotton thread hanger to the tag and wrapped on the ribbon.

Card Club - Feb - Victorian Paper

This card has a layer of really nice giftwrap glued to the front. I added a length of ivory rick rack across the bottom third. I assembled my accent starting with a pink Stampin Up! Scallop punch, a black circle, a pink foil circle topped with an ivory circle greeting which has been raised with a pop dot. The accent then is mounted over the rickrack on the bottom right hand corner.

Card Club - Feb - Acetate Card

The card is a clear piece of acetate cut and folded as regular card. We want to place our elements so that no adhesive shows. Determine where the five petal punch will go based on alignment of the yellow gingham paper. Make a hole in the card front with push pin and attach the silk and cardstock flowers to the card front. Place adhesive on the inside of the card behind the flower accent. Looking through the card place your yellow gingham square. Again, looking through the card align and glue the orange layer to the inside back flap of the card with a bit of adhesive. Turn the card over and glue the yellow gingham flower over the adhesive showing. Tie the ribbon along the folded edge and trim the ends.

Card Club - Feb - Buckle Card

I started with the ribbon which is taped down to the inside of the card. (Turn the ribbon over to navy if you have a red card). I layered a MS medallion punch with a Stampin Up! flower punch then held them in place with a tiny silver brad. I used a tiny brad because the prongs are very narrow and it was easier to insert it through the push pin hole in the ribbon and cardstock. Stamped the greeting in navy with a small clear stamp. I punched the Stampin Up! Horizontal Punch as far as I could toward the centre. I placed the navy strip next to the edge of the card then folded half into the slot space. The next fold is even with the card edge again. That leaves a small tab which gets glued down to the inside back of the card right on the edge. The trick is to make sure it aligns with the slot. Glue the insert into the card. Now press both insert flaps towards the back and pull the navy strap through the slot and back to card edge. Slip the spiral paper clip over the edge to keep in place.

Card Club - December - Photo Acetate

This card features a flower photo printed on a laser transparency. I used my own photos and selected ones with good contrast so when they were printed in black and white there would be clear areas for the watercolored paper to show through. Having a few dark areas gives you places to put your adhesive to keep the acetate in place. The acetate is trimmed to the edge of the photo then the watercolor paper is trimmed to the same edge. The lacy strip at the top was made with the MS Arches border punch. I added some coordinating silk flowers attached with a mini brad.

Card Club - December - Binding Edge Border Punch

I started with the Binding Edge border punch by EKSuccess on a piece of ruled paper. I used striped scrapbook paper and some coordinating chocolate chip gross grain ribbon. I made the slit in the top fold with the SU Horizontal Slot punch. The large "U" is cut with the Sizzix Shadow Box alphabet die. There possible many color combinations. This one's colors would make it a card for a great guy.

Card Club - December - Lattice Die

The central accent on this card was created with the Stampin Up Lattice Die. I found my inspiration on line at Splitcoast Stampers. The green piece was cut with the die then I glued the die cut over a piece of coordinating scrapbook paper and trimmed around the edges with scissors. The die creates 16 petal shapes which happen to fit perfectly on the Stampin Up five petal punch shape. Isn't that great! I think so. I glued the petals on and mounted the flower to the card with a brad over a coordinating card stock strip. Again, many looks can be acheived by changing the colors.

Card Club - December - Gocco Printed

The greeting on this card was printed on with gold ink and a Gocco Machine. Very cool process. The 3D silver star is mounted with a Zot. The bow is made in red satin ribbon. Classic look to this card.
