2026 Slow Stitching Project - Page 32 - P2 - Perpendicular, Parallel, Pine, Plant

Working on my slow stitching along with K3N Cloth Tales' A to Z challenge.  I am late with my entries.

This is Community Choice for P - K chose Perpendicular and so did I. I also chose Parallel lines, Plant and Pine tree.

I invisible stitched my striped Parallel lines layer to my foundation layer.  I then couched 2 Perpendicular lines of navy cotton along the top. 

I then stitched a Plant vine in between the navy lines.

I then stitched 3 Pine trees below the second navy line. Couched the trunks with brown yarn and thread and the branches with green yarn with green thread. Very wonky.   I need to move on. 

2026 Slow Stitching Project - Page 29 - O1 - Organic, Olive, Onyx

This is my piece for K3N Cloth Tale's 2026 Slow Stitch project A to Z.

We are on O1 - The prompt is Organic.  I cut strips of fabric with Organic curvy lines in colors that start with O. Orange, Oyster, Orchid, Olive, Ochre.  I used a couching stitch with coordinating floss to adhere them to the basic fabric. 

After looking at it for a day or two I decided I need something more Organic so I cut some Organic shapes from paper and traced them onto the strips then stitched them with Onyx (black) floss.

I am happy with this one.

2026 Slow Stitching Project - Page 1 - A1 Applique

I am following K3N Cloth Tales Slow Stitch project for 2026.

I am making a Stitch Book which will hold a sample of stitches as well as any techniques I would like to record as a reference.  I chose a piece of white linen for my background and a piece of thin cotton for my foundation layer.

The pages are ripped 8 inches wide by 7 inches tall.  The inch on the left is being left clean for the binding at the end to make it a book.  I tack the pages together so that I will have 26 double sided pages at the end.

I don't know how that will mesh with the prompts that K3N provides but we will see how it goes.

K3N's plans is to provide prompts based from A to Z.  One week she will provide the 1st letter prompt and the second week she will pick from the suggestions in the comments of the first video for that letter. 

The first prompt which I am labeling A1 is applique. Not surprising at all. I have added it to my piece as well.

I invisible basted my linen and cotton together.  Then I selected for small pieces of fabric from my stash to highlight the 4 stitches I had selected for applique. 

Top Left - Couching Stitch                       Middle - Overcast Stitch

Bottom Left - Blanket Stitch                    Top Right - Fly Stitch

The butterfly is a more realistic expression of what applique would look like on a project.  I had cut several extra butterflies for my cards last week so it was just sitting on my workspace so it was selected.

I chose the couching stitch to applique the butterfly.

There are some interesting suggestion for the second A prompt in the comments.  Will be interesting to see which one is chosen.

I continued to add stitching to the remaining bands of color. I stayed with my four colors and added yellow circles to the turquoise band.  

Then tight waves in navy on the yellow band.  Then wider waves in turquoise on the pink band. I used a scrapbook tool to mark out the waves onto the fabric. 

I then added a circle of tiny white rick rack couched down with pink thread. 

It is looking pretty good.
 

Slow Stitching 2025 - Week 4

This is week 4 of the 2025 Slow Stitching Comfort Coverlet hosted by K3N Cloth Tales.

This week I couched a circle of white tiny rick rack all the way around the outer circle of my design.

I really enjoyed the couching and I think it solidified the outside circle.

I have gone ahead with my stitching because I may be moving back home this week. Yeah!

Week 43 - Sensory Stitching

This week's focus is using our senses when stitching.

The sense of touch as we are stitching. How does it feel when the needle and thread goes through different fabric? Elements to excite our sight as we see our piece. Do we hear the needle as it goes through stiff fabric?

I chose a black fabric with a hint of herringbone texture to it.

I added the couched yarn, the button, the pom pom trim, the lace, the corduroy and the netting for my fingers. 

The button and colors for my eyes. 

The taffeta fabric below the button certainly engaged my ears as the needle went through that fabric.  Also there was printing on the piece of white tone on tone fabric in the bottom left hand corner and as I put in my seed stitches it was more difficult to push through the printed areas.

Week 40 - Enso Circle - Zen Buddhist philosophy - symbolizes an expression of life, showing both the beginning and end

My top layer is linen and my foundation cloth is similar.

I used a large tip permanent Sharpie marker to make my mark.

It is quite open.

I couched variegated yarn onto my marker shape. I have green to blue in the colors. The inner one I stitched in blue and the outer one in green. 

I like the puckering of the fabric which has taken place.  I place the pieces so the color were offset.

It looked a little empty so I put a shell button in the bottom.

Slow Stitching - No. 032 - Inspired by Judy Martin

I am catching up on my slow stitching now that the floor has been installed and all the furniture is back in place.

This is week 32 of K3N Cloth Tale's Slow Stitching challenge.  Prompt - Inspired by Judy Martin. K saw Judy's show in Birmingham but was inspired by an older piece.

The piece took 3 years (over 1000 days) to complete and was over 200 feet long and titled "Not to know but to go on".  The idea to stitch every day and take things as it comes. 

I chose the items to couch from one of my scrap bags and just laid them down as they came along. Started with one color and just changed as that one ran out.  I couched yarn, ribbon, rickrack and cording.  I really loved how the tiny rick rack looked couched. All kinds of ways to stitch it as well. Of course, there is as many colors as the rainbow.  I then stitched in between the couched rows till I was happy with the whole piece from either side.

Not sure how this will make it into my squares as it is too long.  Can I fold it effectively, I am not sure.
