Recent Photos

We celebrated the first Sunday of Advent this week.  I put out my Advent Wreath which are a set of 4 glass vases with crackle glass votive holders.

The bottom of the vase is filled with glass marbles and the candle in placed inside the holder.

The vases are place on a glass charger plate with the space around covered in frosted glass marbles.

I did not manage to find colored votive candles this year so they are all white.

It was Dad's 88th birthday this week so I was home on the weekend  to celebrate with 17 others for a great time with food and family.
I am still on the hunt for winter barn photos so I stopped several times on Sunday to take photos.  This one was well situated, not too many distractions but the sun refused to come out from behind the clouds so the image is not as great as it could have been.  It was 20 minutes down the road before the sun came out.  I'm glad I did not wait.

I caught good light on this building.  It is not a barn unfortunately but the snow was sparkling and the eves of the building were bright.

The clouds in the background were heavy on the horizon.  The fence posts provide some elements in the fore ground.

I dug out the Christmas Tea for my afternoon snack.

It is a black tea from Epicure which I purchased a while back.  It was good with a bit of honey and milk.

I had a mince meat tart which is one of my favorites with a little whipped cream.  Some tea biscuits with Black Current jelly.  These were left overs from our card making & quilting women's group get together on Monday night.  We sang songs, played a couple of games and had good fellowship with good finger food.

My photo calendars are available for purchase.  This is the Nice Cuppa one which features tea cups and mugs in the 2018 photo calendar.

You can check out my Calendar Page for details.

The Miniature Show reception was held on Friday evening.  The show runs to December 23rd.

I have my photo calendars on the first row of the display.

Christmas cards on the next couple of rows.

Fridge Calendars in both English and French versions on the bottom row featuring flower, nature and tea photos.

Mini Show - Photos to Gallery

I'm dropping off my framed photos to the gallery today for the Miniatures Show which starts on December 1st. The art pieces must be 10 x 10 or smaller which provides customers the opportunity to purchase art at a smaller price point for the Christmas season.

I added my signature with a black Pigma Micro archival marker.

I chose this beech wood 10x10 inch frame with a white mat for my Wilson's Snipe photo which compliments the it nicely.

I chose a matte silver frame in 6 x 8 inches for this Barn Swallow photo.  He was keeping a keen eye on me when I visited the Ellis Blue Bird farm.

A beautiful pink tulip taken at the Conservatory. I chose an 8x10 silver frame with a white mat.

This photo features a Greater Scaup which is a medium sized duck which was taken at Elk Island Park earlier this year.

I chose a 7x7 inch matte black metal frame with a generous white mat.  The black frame complements the black in the duck very nicely.

This red poppy is framed in a gun metal metal frame with a greenish granite mat.

This sunflower was placed with a medium blue mat into a 8x10 inch matte navy metal frame.

The reception will take place on Friday, December 1st!

The gallery is holding a Miniatures show starting December 01, 2017.  Part of the show is an exchange with artists in Winnipeg.  We are sending fifteen pieces.

I chose my barn swallow photo printed in 5x7 inches. It was mounted on a white card.  I signed it with a black marker in the left bottom corner.  I added a navy mat.  It was framed in a matte silver metal frame with glass.

I am looking forward to what the Winnipeg artists are sending our way.

Framed Photo - Sunflower

I matched this wonderful photo of a sunflower with a navy matte 8x10 metal frame with a medium blue mat.

Sunflowers are my favorite flower and this shot works well in a landscape orientation.  It shows off our wonderful blue skies this summer.

This will be in the Miniatures show at the gallery for the next 2 weeks.  It's a bright and cheery piece which should be popular with many people.

Art Canvas - Fern

I created another mixed media canvas for the show tomorrow.

I chose the photo for this piece which is a fern from my 2015 Alberta Road Trip Calendar.

I selected the colors for the canvas from the photo and painted a ombre pattern in greens from dark near the bottom to light at the top.  I let it dry overnight.  Once dry, I spattered the canvas with white paint which quickly dried.

I mounted the fern photo to a layer of black card stock leaving a small border.  This layer was adhered to the bottom left hand corner.  It is mounted to the canvas with 3D foam tape.  I colored the sides of the foam tape with a black marker before putting it in place.

Being put into the Miniature Show at the gallery this weekend.

I'm also submitting the Nature Leaf mixed media piece I created a while back.

Framed Photo - Joy to the World

I created this art with my Alphabet Photography.

I did "JOY to the World" where Joy is created with my alphabet photos. I  mounted it onto a barn wood background which is another photo I took along the way. It was printed in black and white to a size 5x7 inches.

It was mounted to a piece of white card stock.  I added a deep navy mat into the 8x10 inch silver matte frame.

It will be in the Miniatures Show on the weekend.

Frame Photo - Pink Tulip

I picked a 6x8 inch silver matte frame with no mat.

I mounted a 5x7 photo of a pink tulip to a piece of white card mat board.  I added spacers to ensure the photo was not touching the glass.

Being submitted to the Miniatures Show this weekend.

Framed Photo - Red Poppy

This is a framed photograph of a red poppy which I took at the Community Garden this summer.

The frame is a shiny metal bronze which measures 8x8.5inches with a green granite mat with a nearly square 3.75 inch hole.   I chose the poppy as it contrasts well with the mat.

This piece is being submitted in the Miniatures Show this weekend.

Framed Photo - Resting Pelican

I framed a 5x7 photo of a pelican I took at the zoo a couple years ago.

I chose a matte silver metal frame measuring 8x10 inches with a navy mat.

I glued the photo to a piece of white card stock which was adhered to the mat.

This framed piece is being put into the Miniatures Show this weekend.

Art Canvas - Blue Beauty

This is a rework of a piece of art with a house that I did last year.

I used a photo from the Beauty Photo Calendar

I painted the 8x8 inch canvas with colors that coordinated with the photo.  I allowed it to dry over night.

I layered the photo onto a piece of black card stock.  This layer was adhered to the front of the canvas in the top right hand corner with 3D foam tape.  I colored the edges of the foam tape with a black marker.

This piece is headed to the gallery in the Miniatures show.

Art Canvas - Poinsettia

I painted this 8x8 canvas as a reworked piece from the Paris piece I did last year.

I painted the art canvas with corresponding colors from the poinsettia photo.  I used a 4x4 inch photo from my 2015 Floral photo calendar.  I mounted it onto a piece of black card stock.

This layer is mounted to the front of the canvas in the bottom left hand corner with 3D foam tape.  I colored the edges of the foam tape with a black sharpie marker.

Being delivered to the gallery for the Miniatures show.

Miniatures Show - Nov 28 to Dec 16 2015

The CAVA Gallery is holding a special event which is a 2 day kick off to the Miniatures Show.  There will be a fun atmosphere at the gallery on the weekend and with the snow's arrival it's hoped that people will be in a Christmas shopping mood.  This show was designed to provide supporters and the public access to art in a small format.  The pieces must be 10x10 inches or smaller which generally makes them more affordable.
I have my 8x8" mixed media collages in this show.  Of course, my 2016 Photo Calendars are still for sale as well as my greeting cards.  Drop by during the next few weeks, browse the art and cross off a few names off your Christmas list.
