Cool Tool - Push Pins
I find making a hole before adding a brad to my project helpful. There are tools that to can be purchased at a store for this purpose but here's a home grown solution. I use a push pin. You need a material to push the pin into so find a material that keeps it shape despite being continually poked. I use an old thick rubber like computer mouse pad. The other material is white stiff foam packaging from a computer. No matter the size of brad this gives just the start you need to get your brad through your card or scrapbook page. I have added a ribbon to the push pin which helps me keep track of it. Give it a try!!!
