Card - Sympathy - Watercolor Flower

A sympathy card for a friend who recently lost her husband.  He has been ill for a while.

I cut a piece of mixed media paper to 4.00 x 5.25 inches.

I loosely sketched the flower and leaves with my 4H pencil. I wet the paper and added the background in blue at the top and green on the bottom.

I then a painted the flower with an orange and the leaves with sap green.

Once dry I erase the pencil marks and added the spatter marks in blue.

Once that was dry, I stamped the sentiment with my black Versafine pad and a stamp from the Simple Sketched set.

I then mounted the painting to a Kiwi Kiss A2 card base.  With a quarter sheet insert and a white envelope it was ready for pressing.  It will be mailed shortly.

Card - Sympathy - Watercolor Cattails

While repairs were taking place in the laundry area I decided to make some cards.

My aunt's husband lost his older brother recently so I decided to make a card.

I started with a panel of Mixed Media paper.  I lightly sketched the cattails/bulrushes with a 4H pencil.  I watercolored the background first with blues on top and greens on the bottom.

I then painted the cattails, their stems and the leaves of the plants.

Once that was dry, I outlined in permanent marker the cattails, stems and a few leaves.

I added a bit of spatter in blue and green.

I used a Stampin Up stamp from the Simply Sketched set with my VersaFine Black ink pad to add the sentiment.

I then mounted the panel to a brown A2 card base and added some embossed lines on the right hand side with my paper score tool.

Sympathy Cards

I made a few sympathy cards to include in a set of cards for my Mom's birthday.

I chose Whisper White layer trimmed to leave a small border. I stamped the Berry Branch from the Simply Sketched stamp set with black permanent ink so I could watercolor the images.

The greeting is from the same set.

I chose Old Olive and a bit of Always Artichoke for the leaves and Marina Mist for the berries.  My sister shared from her stash of Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Crayons a set of the bright colors.  Thanks so much.

I adhered the layer to the front of an Old Olive card base.

Spattered a bit of green watercolor by flicking my brush just to soften the wide open white space.

For this card I switched up the orientation to landscape and used 2 stamps from the Simply Sketched set. The Poppy and the sentiment.

I used Real Red and some Regal Rose for the poppy.

Again, a bit of spattering with a flick of my brush.  Trimmed to 4.00 x 5.25 inches to leave a small border.

The card base is Pink Pirouette.

These have had white inserts with appropriate sentiments added to the inside of the card.

The Perched Bird from the Simply Sketched set with the sympathy sentiment.

I chose to make a brown with red and green and added a breast of More Mustard.  The reeds are Always Artichoke.  I added some water below with Marina Mist.

This was cut to 2.75 x 4.25 inches.  I layered it onto a piece of brown card stock and then onto a textured card base in Ballet Blue.

Again, a bit of spattering with my brush.

I am adding these to a variety of others cards to make a set of 10 cards.  Mom who is in her eighties still makes cards but it's nice to a stash ready when she is not up to making a card.

I am looking forward to seeing her.

Sympathy - Large Butterfly

I made this card for a friend who lost her dad in mid January.

I started with the designer paper with large blossoms in warm tones.  I chose a green card to match the leaves in the paper.  I ripped the paper on an angle and adhered it to the card front.

I stamped the sentiment in the bottom right hand corner with SU Chocolate Chip ink with the stamp from Simply Sketched stamp set.

I cut a butterfly in blue with the Sizzix Winged Beauties thinlit set. I adhered it along the angle and used the corresponding marker to add some brown to match the sentiment.

Sympathy Card Set

I made this card for a friend who lost her daughter recently.

I chose a light blue card and then cut the sheet of 12x12 designer paper by Scrap Works - Ethan Kate - Intimates Brooch Felt.  It is a nice soft color palette of blue, green and white.  This is the solid side of a pale blue.  I cut the DSP with the Memory Box Reverse Butterfly Collage die then mounted it to the card front ensuring the corners and the spaces between received adhesive.
I stamped the sentiment with the greeting from the Stampin Up Simply Sketched stamp set in Gable Green.

The extra cards were done with the same supplies but using the other side of the paper which features designer flowers.  They are wrapped and tied with a bow for delivery this morning.

Sympathy - Canvas Butterfly

This is a sympathy card for a friend who lost her husband Ray this week.  I'm attending his funeral today and we will celebrate his full life of 93 years.

I spread some Tim Holtz Faded Jeans Distress Stain onto my acrylic plate then just pressed the kraft card front onto it to create a mono print.
I created the tag by cutting a strip of navy card stock to 2" wide and punched the end with the Stampin Up Banner Triple Punch.  The kraft layer was cut to 1.5" and punched the same way.  These were adhered together. I stamped the sentiment from the SU Simply Sketched stamp set in SU Night of Navy ink.  I adhered the canvas butterfly above the sentiment with Zots. I punched a hole in the upper left hand corner and added a cotton string matching the butterfly.  The tag is adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.

Sympathy - Lattice Die

I needed several sympathy cards so I thought I would participate in a challenge at the same time.

I started with a Stampin Up Tangerine Tango card.  I cut a piece of Whisper White to leave a nice border.  I then, embossed it with the SU Stripes Embossing Folder.  This layer was adhered to the card front.  I cut a piece of Pool Party with the SU Lattice Die.  I adhered it to the top 2/3 of the card with Bling Zots on the four largest intersections.  This works well as it is being adhered to a textured layer.  I stamped the sentiment from the Simply Sketched Stamp Set onto Whisper White card stock with Pumpkin Pie classic ink.  I punched the right hand side with the Banner Triple punch then I punched a So Saffron piece of card stock to align on the left and leave a border on the top, bottom and right hand side.

Sympathy - Simply Sketched - Winter Green

Another sympathy card for a man who lost his wife Louise this weekend.

I started with a Stampin Up Sage Shadow card.  I cut a piece of Winter Green DSP to leave a small border and adhered it to the card front.  I stamped the bird and sympathy sentiment from the Simply Sketched stamp set in Always Artichoke onto Very Vanilla card stock.  I heat embossed it with clear powder.  I adhered in the bottom right hand corner.

Sympathy Cards - Family

These are the cards I made for her sisters and niece.  I continued with the same 4" squares of Stampin Up Elegant Soiree DSP.  This time I used the other side of the paper onto Baja Breeze card stock.  I chose the flower from the Simply Sketched stamp set for this card stamped in BB on VV card stock. I flagged the end of the strip with the Banner Triple punch.
For this next card I used the bird in Basic Grey on VV card stock. Again flagged end of the sentiment layer.  The multi colored side of the Elegant Soiree DSP.
Back to Baja Breeze card with the blue side of the DSP.  This time I stamped the sentiment with Basic Grey Suede then I trimmed around the sentiment.  Mounted it on the right hand side.

They are a large and very close family so it will be a difficult day.

Sympathy Card - Simply Sketched with Elegant Soiree

A dear lady named Linda passed away late last week and today is her funeral.  This is the card I made for her husband.

I started with a sheet of double sided designer paper from Stampin Up Elegant Soiree collection.  The colors in this paper are Very Vanilla, Baja Breeze, Soft Suede, and Basic Grey.  I used the Simply Sketched stamp set with the sympathy option.  This one is stamped in BG on VV then the bottom is flagged with the Triple Banner punch.  I cut the sheet of 12x12 into 9 4x4 inch squares.

I made a set of five cards for her husband to use as he needs.  I ripped the square at about two thirds and ripped again a small strip to remove the white edge.  I cut the butterflies with the Sizzix Winged Beauties framelit set from VV card stock.  I added wax paper between the die and card stock to assist the removal from the die.  Works very well.  The good variety of colors in the DSP allowed three different card colors which made it a quick card making session.

Card - Simply Sketched Sympathy

I made this card for a friend who lost his dad recently.
I started with a Crushed Curry card.  The stamps I used are from the Simply Sketched stamp set.  I chose the bird to make the card more masculine and stamped it in Crushed Curry and the sentiment in Baja Breeze as I don't have a Pool Party pad. I watercolored some background on upper and lower portions of the Whisper White card stock with an Aqua Painter and the same colors.  I put the bottom edge of the Pool Party layer through the Big Shot with the edge of the Scallop Square Bigz Clear die.  I dyed a bit of white cotton thread with some Crushed Curry ink to add a bit of repetition and fill in the space below the white layer.
