Muttart Conservatory - Christmas

The feature pyramid was decorated for Christmas.  There were beautiful poinsettias in a variety of colors on full display

I loved this variegated one.

The Hellebore - Lenten Rose was in bloom in the tropical pyramid.

I always love seeing this flower.

The tropical space had lost one of the main trees in the center so it was very much brighter but feeling a bit empty.

Fog was covering the pond in the feature space.  Love how the stalks just emerge from the mist and the silver ball reflects its surroundings.

Wooly penguins sporting red and white scarves where resting on a large snowflake.

Wonderful Christmas decor.

A clever tree decorating idea.

Beautiful clear glass spheres filled with red air plants.  They made a really nice looking tree.

The huge red star against the rock wall made for a great shot.

It would make a great Christmas card.

I was glad not to have missed this display as it opened some time in November.

It was pleasantly quiet as long as I avoided the group of  school kids moving from pyramid to pyramid.  I just skipped the Arid pyramid as I was getting tired and they were just ahead of me.

The gift shop has some really nice things for Christmas gifts.

R2Go Christmas Card Kit - Penguin Tuque

I started with a red card and a skating penguin with a red glitter tuque.

I printed a frame on white card stock.  I adhered the penguin accent to the frame.  I applied a piece of 3D foam tape to each corner.

I wrapped the white seam binding around the card front.  I tied a knot and moved it to the right hand side.

I adhered the accent square aligned to the left to leave a small border on 3 sides making sure my knot was to the right of the accent.

I adhered the greeting of my choice to the bottom right hand corner of the accent layer.  I adhered the quarter sheet insert to the bottom half of the inside of the card. I trimmed the ends of the ribbon with scissors.

R2Go Christmas Card Kit - Penguin Ear Muffs

I started with a navy card and a navy, blue, white and glitter square accent featuring a skating penguin with red glitter ear muffs.

I printed a square to frame the penguin accent layer.  I adhered the accent square to the frame.  This layer was adhered to the card front aligned to the top of the card leaving an even border on 3 sides.

I color printed 2 greetings. I selected my banner greeting then trimmed with scissors. I cut a piece of 3D foam tape in half and placed a piece on each end of the greeting.  I then adhered the greeting below the accent layer

I adhered a quarter sheet insert on the inside of the card on the right hand side.

I adhered the accent square aligned to the left to leave a small border on 3 sides making sure my knot was to the right of the accent.

Mosaic Monday - Happy Feet

I went to the Calgary Zoo on the long weekend.  While I was there I check out the new exhibit of penguins.  I captured 3 species of penguins: Rock Hopper, Humbolt Penguin and King Penguin.  They have a great exhibit where you can see them swimming under water.  I had recently seen Happy Feet so these characters were familiar. It was great and the kids liked it.

Submitting to Mosaic Monday hosted by Judith at Lavendar Cottage.

Card Club - November - Christmas Penguin

We made Christmas cards tonight.
I selected my colors based on the central image of the penguin.  The card is black and I cut the red layer to leave just a small border and glued it to the card front. I cut the white layer with the Spellbinder Nestabilities Labels 22. The yellow oval was cut with SB Nestabilities Ovals. These were added to the top half of the card.  The penguin is a sticker and was set in the center of the oval.  The greeting was cut with the Stampin Up Bitty Banners Framelits.  I cut another banner of the same size from card stock matching the card to create the shadow. The shadow banner is cut crosswise then glued offset to either end.  The banner was there added to the card front with 3D foam tape.  I added the dots around the oval with a black marker to create a frame.  The alternative was a red card with a black background layer.
