Christmas Card Challenge - February - Star

My card design for the February Christmas Card Challenge - Star.

I used foil paper with stars on it which was cut to 4.00 x 5.25 inches.

It was cut with the Stampin Up Star Framelits and adhered to the front of a black card.  I chose the next size down and cut foil chipboard and mounted it in the center of the hole I had cut earlier with 3D foam tape.

I color printed a greeting in black on white card stock.   I then punched it out with the Stampin Up Artisan Label.

It was mounted in the bottom right hand corner with 3D foam tape.

I have several ready for the card box.

I just couldn't leave those star cut outs on my craft table.

I found some silver/black ribbon which coodinated with the stars.

I chose a red card base.  I added a bit of texture to the card front by piercing lines with my dressmaking tool.

I put a length of ribbon across the bottom of the card and taped the ends to the inside.

I adhered the star matching the flat end to the bottom of the card.

Add the same greeting as the one above with 3D foam tape.

Sewing Project - Quilt 5 - IKEA Fabric Panel

I finished the companion quilt from the IKEA cotton panel of kid design.

Finished Size: 38.5" W x 44" T

Front: IKEA fabric panel

Backing: Caramel textured cotton fabric

Batting: Fleece

Binding: Striped cotton fabric

Quilting: Followed the stripes across the quilt.

Applique: Star from warm yellow fabric with ivory thread.

The backing fabric is opaque enough to hide the red color of the fleece inside.

The binding was leftover fabric in bright cheery colors similar to the front fabric.  It was cut to 2.5 inches.  You can check out this video for binding how to. Fool Proof Quilt Binding.

I pinned the layers together with small safety pins before I ran the lines of quilting across the front.  I chose ivory thread to hide it as much as possible.

I then squared it and applied the binding.  It will make a child a nice quilt to help them through a difficult time.

For the batting in between the front and back I used leftover pieces of fleece from this Pot Protector Project.

Lessons Learned: I decided to make my last seam along the binding. I ironed the binding at pinned it before making my last seam thinking I would have a better chance to catch the back layer but I did miss a few spots - more than I expected.  I will work on that.

R2Go All Occasion Stack Kit - Set 9

I started with a medium teal colored card base in linen finish.

I added a layer of dark warm blue green designer paper with spots of yellow.  I have no credits for this paper.

I angled it until I was happy on my tall card then adhered it.  I trimmed the excess paper away along the card edges with scissors.

I created an accent with a deep teal 1.75" circle topped with a yellow card die cut.  The circle punched and the star die cut with the Stampin Up Star Thinlit set from deep golden yellow card stock.  This was adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.

The greeting was color printed and punched with the Stampin Up Modern Label punch.  It was adhered with 3D foam tape aligned in the top right hand corner.

I started with a red card base in the wide (landscape) orientation.

I chose designer paper - Aspen Frost by BasicGrey which was trimmed to 4" by 5.25" then cut with the Stampin Up Sunburst Thinlit.  I adhered it to the card front aligned along the edges leaving a small border.

I created an accent with a large 2" circle punchie in white, a medium teal circle punch measuring 1.75", a large white silk flower, a smaller red flower with a teal brad.  It was adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.

These layouts are very versatile as they work in both orientations and a greeting can easily be added to either.  I included SU Modern Label punchie greetings in this kit with 3D foam tape to adhere them.

Card Exchange

I made a couple of these cards for my card exchange buddies.

I started with a black card and then added a layer of sparkly paper leaving a small border.

I cut a black card stock star with the Stamping Up Star Framelits.  I mounted a silver glitter star which was a bit smaller.  These were adhered together and it was adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.

I created the greeting with the SU Modern Label punchie and the Word Window punchie.  It was also attached to the card front with 3D foam tape.

These are going in the mail and I hope they will be delivered.

Share Your Cup - This Week

I had a visit with my sister in the last couple of days.  We planned our annual saskatoon picking to coincide with a paper crafters garage sale being held in a Red Deer.

I certainly do no need anymore paper so I was looking for some tea related tools.
My niece had send a wish list as well.  We managed a few things on her list.
I brought home a nice balloon die (maker unknown), Stampin Up Stars Framelit dies, a punch to make 2 holes for the center of a button, some sheets of dark green card stock and some free chipboard. All for less than $15.  Excellent.  I have the stamp set which coordinates with the Star dies.

We headed to Gull Lake in hopes of getting some sunset shots.  A storm had passed earlier in the evening and these clouds remained which hid the sunset.  It was very cold and as you can see the water was very choppy. No bird photos either.

We did stop at the village store and got some great Maple Walnut ice cream cones. Yum!

We had to enjoy them in the car as it was not nice enough to sit outside.

My sister has a wonderful garden so she brings fresh flowers for her vase regularly.  They add lot to a table.  She had calendulas and dahlias in her vase this day.

We had tea from a new to her tea pot.  What a lovely tea pot.  It is stainless steel double walled Dorothee by Bredemeijer which is a manufacturer in the Netherlands.

I can see photographing it presents certain challenges but it is really lovely.  She purchased it a thrift store but upon research on line this is a pricey teapot.

Of course, I had Masala Chai.

We picked saskatoons at the U Pick just north of Blackfalds.  The clusters were all ripe and picking went fairly fast.  We picked 3 ice cream pails in a couple of hours.  Excellent. On the left is a pail of the berries. I freeze them on a flat pan like a cookie sheet or pizza tin so that they don't stick together. They are then placed in a freezer bag, later I can remove just the amount I need.
