Birthday Cards for Mom

I made some ready made birthday cards for my Mom as a Christmas gift. She usually makes her own but it's nice to have a few ready to give cards.

I chose a warm dark blue which matched the bird nicely.  I added the blue bird (it's a post it note). Put a bit of white behind the eye. Added a wing which was cut with the Cricut and embossed with the Cuttlebug Devine Swirl folder.  Added a branch cut with the Stampin Up Little Leaves sizzlet. Added a SU Modern Label/Word Window greeting.  Designer paper by Karen Foster.

With the bird in the middle of this card I chose to just add a greeting in the bottom left hand corner.  I chose a medium pink card.

This one received a blue greeting instead of a pink one. I just love this paper.

The paper is Indigo Dreams Gypsy Stripe by Recess Carson-Dellosa.  A warm dark blue card base with a SU Word Window greeting.  I changed the orientation on the second one.

I am mailing a parcel to my parents this year.  That is a first time in twenty years.  I have almost always with my parents for Christmas.  Makes me sad!

Glitter Card Mosaic Bird

The Christmas cards I receive each year a few include some with glitter.  Gorgeous cards that sparkle and glitter.  When it's time to take them down what to do with them? For this card the bird was cut from the glitter card mosaic. The wing was cut with the Cricut and the Create a Critter cartridge then I embossed it with the Cuttlebug D'vine Swirl folder.  I added a definition to the beak with a marker and used a white brad for the eye.  I punched the branch with the Stampin Up Build Up Bird punch from white card stock.  I chose a piece of aqua polka dot designer paper and adhered it to the black card front.  I adhered the mosaic bird to the card front then adhered the wing and the branch.  I added a greeting with a black SU Modern Label punchie and a Word Window greeting. These are adhered together then mounted to the card front with 3D foam tape.  Sending these to my card exchange buddies.

Glitter Card Mosaic Technique

I spent some time with my sister Therese on the weekend and she came up with the idea of a glitter card mosaic.  Check her cards out.
1. Collect the cards.
2. Cut the card fronts into squares.  We chose .75" which is the width of the spacer on the paper cutter.
3. Layout the squares on a contrasting card stock until you have something appealing.
4. Glue the square down and press overnight is best.
5. We cut several holes with die cut machine to assess the placement on our mosaic.
6. I traced the shape of this post it bird on the back of the card stock.
7. Create a project with the cut out.  I made a card.

Cards for Mom - Post it Birds

I made some of these bird cards for my Mom.  I've made some before which you can see here.  These are the cutest post it notes you ever saw.  I'm so glad I picked them up when I saw them.
On this card with the blue bird I used the some Karen Foster designer paper but selected cherry cobbler card stock.  A strip of old olive across the bottom with a Stampin Up Small Leaves sizzlet in white. The wing was cut with the Cricut and the Create a Critter cartridge then I embossed it with the Cuttlebug D'vine Swirl folder.  I added a definition to the beak with a white gel marker and used a white brad for the eye.

For the purple bird I selected some Echo Park Paper Co. designer paper. It's soft muted tones worked well.  It's double sided so I cut it at 3.5" and flipped the smaller piece.  I added a strip of blue green card stock with the other details mentioned above being the same.

For the pink bird I chose some Renae Lindgren designer paper by Imaginations.  I chose a deep olive green card stock with matched very well with the paper.  Same details as above.

These are great cards which can be used for any occasion.

All Occasion Stack Class - Birdies

I've used these birdie post it notes before.  They are so darn cute.  I found this designer paper which has both the blue and cranberry colors.  I cut the larger piece 4"x3.75" and the smaller piece 4"x 1.5". I taped them together on the back then wrapped the twill tape over the joint and tape the ends to the back.  This layer was then glued to the card front.  I glued the SU! small leaves die cut on the card front.  I glued the bird on top of the leaves.  The wing was cut on the Cricut with the Straight From the Nest Cartridge then embossed with either the Cuttlebug Devine Swirl or the SU! Finial Press folder. The wing is glued to the bird aligning the wing to the body. Making a hole in the eye with a push pins I added a white mini brad for the eye. This was a versatile design which allowed to make wide or tall cards and a couple of color options.

All Occasion Stack Class - Little Birdie

Aren't these cute? I started with a post it pad in a bird shape I bought at a local craft store. Blue and Cranberry.
I selected a white card because the branch and the wing were white. I selected Designer Paper to coordinate with the bird color, trimmed it and glued it to the card. I added the beak shape with a white gel marker. Adding glue to the bird was a bit challenging because the post it glue resisted. I had to rub the post it back against fabric to dull it some, then I could add glue stick and then positioned it on the DP. I then glued the small branch below the bird with some leaves coming over the bird. I cut the wing with my Cricut, "Create a Critter" cartridge. It took several test tries to determine what size I needed. I then embossed the wing with the SU! Finial Press folder. Glued the wing on the bird keeping the sweep of wing in line with sweep of the bird body. I added white mini brad for the eye. I color printed greetings, punched them with the SU! horizontal slot punch and glued them to the top right hand corner. The greeting can easily omitted.
