Slow Stitching - No. 024 - Crazy Patch Work - Stitching

I worked on the stitching all week because I knew it was going to take some time.

Week 24 - This is part 2 of the Crazy Patch Work challenge from last week.

I worked all week because I knew it was going to be a lot of work to get all the stitching done.  I added 3 accents pieces - a bead, a button, and yellow double holed thingy.  Then there is lace, rick rack, and gold cording.

I used French Knots, Seed Stitches, Couching Stitch, Cretan Stitch, Sheaf Stitch, Chain Stitch, Running Stitch, and Stem Stitch. This project increased my comfort zone with using different stitches.  The Elegant Stitches book was very helpful. 

The color scheme was totally based on the center piece of fabric.

Nature Print Cards

I made some cards with the leaf nature prints from I made the other day.

This is an aspen leaf so I chose 2 different shades of yellow for this print - Cadmium Yellow and Golden Straw, the brown was Dark Burnt Umber.

I trimmed the print to 3.75x5.00 inches and layered it to a piece of warm golden yellow card stock.  I punched holes in the bottom left hand corner and inserted yellow eyelets with the Crop-a-dile.  I added grey cording and knotted it.  The layer was then adhered to a taupe card.

On this card I swapped the colors around with grey eyelets and yellow cording.  This leaf is from an oak tree.  The coloring is very similar.  These are a bit more brown, where as the aspens can be bright yellow.

These cards are on their way to my card swapping friends. 

Christmas Card Challenge - July - Background

The challenge for July is a technique challenge to create a background.  A few options to create a background are: brayer, sponged, stamped, watercolor, stenciled, spritzed, marbled, spattered, word, ink spot and many more.  Which will you choose?
You will see that I used the decorative paper I made a while ago. This paper is non traditional shades of Christmas colors.  Pink and green was a bit of a challenge to work with.  When searching the web I kept find these old cards from the 40-50's in this color combo with usually silver or sparkles added so I added silver.  I had saved these reflectors from mini lights a while back and it was just the silver foil look I needed.  I layered my decorative paper onto black to tone it down a bit.  I wrapped a piece of silver cording around this layer then adhered it to the card front. I adhered the foil scallop circle then a bright pink snowflake then a pearl white snowflake punched with the MS punch. All held in place with a repeat of the color black and silver in the form of a tiny silver sequin and tiny black brad. I designed the greeting for the Stampin Up Decorative punch and printed it on some of the same pearl white card stock.  It was then punched out and mounted over the silver cord with 3D foam tape.

Challenge - Eyelets

I got up this morning and decided this card needed a bit more. Does that happen to you?  It needed something to unify the elements so I added some Radiant Rain Egyptian Gold mist to it. I covered the greeting so it would stay bright and clean. I'm happier with the card!

I made this card for an on-line challenge which was using eyelets on the card.
I cut the trees with the SU Stocking Accents die.  I selected the tree and cut it in gold, silver, and copper. I mounted them onto crescent black card stock tags cut with a Sizzix tag die. I added eyelets to each in corresponding colors.  I added cording ties that coordinate with the color of the trees.  I mounted to the card with 3D foam tape.  I added a greeting made with SU Modern Label punchie with Merry Christmas punched out with the SU Word Window.

Card - Spring Colors

I've been saving this paper for a long time. We need a reminder of spring this week.

I selected matching card stock to the layer of patterned paper. I found silver cording to go with the metal flower accent. It was layered over a white silk flower held in place with a tiny silver brad.

Just a nice bright card!
