Ink Drawing - Flowers

A pretty set of flowers today drawn with another Staedtler pen - cool roller.

Turns out it is not permanent so no watercoloring this bunch of flowers.

I love these nice smooth lines in this cool ink color.

I am working on the kitchen today and leaving just bare minimum dishes to facilitating feeding myself.

Still waiting!

Watercolor Pencils - Set of 12

I was wanting a set of good watercolor pencils to use while I am away from home.

I have collected a rag tag selection of them from the ReUse Center over the last couple of years.

Some are high quality which made me realize that my Artist Loft set need to be replaced.

I had the case so today I went to Delta Arts and got 3 colors to round out the set.

I got a red, a grey and the silver. Thanks to the staff a Delta I got 3 watercolor pencils in the same brand. She pointed out the watercolor pencils are hexagonal in shape. I had 1 of the 3 right. Great customer service.

I have documented them all in the front page of my sketch book.

They all dissolve completely and it should be a treat to paint with them.

The brands are
Staedtler Karat to
Kohinoor Hardtmuth Moneluz to
Caran d'Ache Prismalo and the new ones are
Faber Castell Albrecht Durer.

All the basic colors and one metallic.

These will last for as long as I need them.

The technical pen is still working great.

Drawing - Sepia - Tech Pen

I doodled last night with the new to me Staedtler marsmagno 2 pen with a super fine tip.

I am sticking with the 5x7 size as that will make one A7 card or two A2 cards.

I drew lines with a ruler which works well with this pen and it's metal tip.  Then I added lines in some spaces and washes with the Sepia ink diluted with water.

Then I decided it need a bit of color so I worked with the few high quality water color pencils I have in my stash.

Then I dipped into my watercolor palette for more color.

I did add some metallic with my new metallic colors from the dollar store. What a great buy that was.

With these small spaces I was able to achieve a smooth watercolor wash in some of them.

I filled the pen with ink and considering that it is permanent I will not get it out of the cartridge if it dries in there.

I will consult with my sister the art school girl to see if it will be okay to leave it or not.

Next time I will not put so much ink in the pen.

Technical Pen Refurbished #2

I found another Staedtler marmagno 2 technical pen in my stash of pens. Amazing.

I have picked up these pens second hand.  They looked like quality pens.

Yes, it took another 24 hours to clean out this one cartridge of ink so I could refill it.

I have not been able to find out what the numbers mean or when they were manufactured.

This one makes a very thin line.

The number 1 on one side and .45 on the other side.

I decided to try this FW acrylic ink which indicates on the bottle that it can be used in technical pens.

I have several colors but chose Sepia to have a neutral.  I would have liked black but I decided to shop my stash instead of buying new.

You see that permanence is 4**** which is good. I will test it out a bit later.

So here is my set up once the cartridge was cleaned.

I put some FW Sepia acrylic ink in this small glass container.  I did add 8 drops of distilled water to thin it out a bit.

I injected it into the cartridge with my blunt syringe and screwed the nib in place.

Put it into the barrel and let it stand for a little bit to allow the ink to descend into nib assembly.

I discovered this feature this second time around. Last time I used pliers top loosen the nib.

The cap has the wrench to loosen the nib!  What a cool thing.

These are very well engineered pens.

Yes, the Sepia acrylic ink is waterproof.

You can see the writing I did with the pen once the ink was coming through the nib.

I just washed over with a water and a brush.

No movement.

Very good!

Inktober 2024 - 24 Flower Garden

Inktober 2024 Challenge

24 Flower Garden

I used my refurbished technical pen to draw the flower free hand onto the blue green watercolor background.

I created ground and added the tall flowers, then the medium height ones then the shorter ones.

I added water color to some of the flowers knowing that the Quink ink is not permanent.  Not the best idea.

Live and learn.

Inktober 2024 - 23 Eiffel Tower

Inktober 2024 Challenge

23 Eiffel Tower

I used the Staedtler Technical Pen on Mixed Media 154lb paper.  I followed a tutorial on how to draw the tower.

Parker Quink blue black ink bought for the fountain pen.

The technical pen is a great addition to my tools.

Technical Pen Refurbished

I brought home a technical pen from the ReUse Centre a while back.  It did not write so it sat with other pens for quite a while. When I rediscovered it this week and I tested it again and still no marks, I was ready to chuck it.  I could see it was a good quality pen - the lid screwed on, Staedtler is a good brand, and the pen point was in good shape.  I decided to google to see if I could find out anything about the pen.

I found out that it was refillable. I figured out how to remove the pen point/cartridge assembly from the barrel. After soaking the pen point for about 30 minutes I managed to get the pen point assembly off. It just unscrewed from the ink cartridge. Very good!

The pen point assembly was soaked for another while until ink started dissolving from it into the water. I used my fine point syringe to push water through it until it ran clear. That done.

The ink in the cartridge was all dry and pretty stuck in there. I soaked it over a 24 hour period and slowly the some of the ink dissolved and some came out in tiny hard bits.  I was happy to start seeing through the cartridge.  I kept rinsing it out regularly and more ink came out.  After a while I could see a small mechanism in the bottom part of the cartridge. I was careful not to damage that.

Finally, it was clean.  I searched on line and one recommendation was fountain pen ink to refill it. That I had so I filled the cartridge with a fine tip syringe, screwed the pen point assembly back on, placed that back into the barrel and lo and behold it writes!

Came in handy for Inktober drawings!
