Cards - A7 - Bands and Ribbon

Another set of A7 cards.

I started this one with a pack of origami paper 3x3 inches with travel and writing theme.

I just selected a few and glued them down to the front of my ivory card base.

I chose a light green card stock strip to overlay on the front and embossed it with a Stampin Up Script folder.  I then used SU Tea Stain ink to highlight the writing.  I added a length of Always Artichoke seam binding which I touched with the same ink to help it fit in.  I knotted onto the strip. I adhered it to the card front with double sided tape.

Added a white insert and an off white envelope from my stash of free ones from years ago.

This designer paper is leftover from a previous card making session.

I love the colors.  I chose a Lost Lagoon card base and adhered the designer paper cut to leave a small border.

I chose a piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock and embossed it with a Cuttlebug folder.  I knotted a length of Baja Breeze seam binding around it and trimmed the ends.

The strip was adhered to the card front in the landscape (wide) orientation.  This seems to have a bit of a Christmas vibe.

Added a white insert and off white envelope.

I started with a designer paper leftover.

I added a Stampin Up Island Indigo card base.  I trimmed the patterned paper to leave a small border and adhered it to the front.

I added a card stock strip in Pumpkin Pie and embossed it with the D'vine Swirl folder.  I rubbed the swirls with a More Mustard ink pad.

I added a coordinating knot of satin ribbon and adhered the strip to the card front.

I finished the card with a white insert and an off white envelope.

Sewing Project - Quilt 4 - Fish Strips

I have finished another quilt.  I wanted to try a QAYG strip quilt which has less stitching as there is no top stitching in this one.

This one is larger coming in at 41 inches wide and 67 inches tall.

I used a piece of fish fabric cotton as the pattern in this quilt.  I added solids in yellow, brown and black fabric. I cut 4", 3.5" and 2.5" strips.

The back is a really soft fabric but I don't know the fiber content. It seemed a shame to cut it into squares so it was a strip quilt.

I added a layer of cotton polyester white fabric as the "batting" in this quilt. I started by pinning the batting to the wrong side of the back.

I started in the center and continued to add strips then iron them over and continued the process till I got to the one edge.  I then switched and went in the other direction from the center.  It is just a series of 14 very long seams. Once the strips were in place I then squared the quilt with my rulers.  I stitched all the way around about 1/8 in from the edge.

The bulk of the quilt was a challenge for the small throat of my sewing machine.  I rolled the quilt to get it through the throat and the length created a large pile behind the machine.

This will make a nice quilt for a boy.

My niece gave me this great piece of fabric from a stash she had been given.  Thanks so much.

This quilt took less time than my regular quilts made with 9.5 inch squares.  I chose grey thread so it would blend with the back.  I added a 2.5 inch binding in black fabric sewed with black thread.

Card Club Kit - Set 1 - Card 1

Well I knew this day was coming and it has arrived.  I no longer have ladies attending Card Club.  I have a few ladies signed up for kits so I have decided to produce a large Card Club Kit to cover the upcoming 4 months of card club so I can move on to other activities on the third Monday of the month.  I have been doing this card club for 15 years so it means a change for me.  I had 2 participating on a part time basis in the last session so this is no surprise.

I chose a card which coordinates with the paper.

I placed a strip of gold sticker paper 2 inches wide on the left hand side and trimmed it to the card edge with scissors.  I adhered a 1.5 inch strip of Japanese Origami paper on top of that layer and trimmed it as well.  The 6 inch sheet produced 4 pieces.

I chose star sequins colors that coordinate with the origami paper.  In this case - red, gold and green. These are adhered to the card front with tiny gold star brads.  I aligned the sequins then used a push pin to create the holes through the card front for the brads.  Placed the sequin on the brad, pushed the prongs through and spread them apart on the inside of the card.

R2G Card Kit - Snowflake is Butterfly

I started with a black card.  I added a piece of sparkly background paper which leaves a small border.  I cut the large white snowflake with the Cricut and the Winter Lace cartridge.  It was cut at 3.75 inches.  It was placed in the top third of the card and tacked to the card front with a bit of snail adhesive. The silver foil snowflake is a Martha Stewart punch and the smaller black one is also.  There is a tiny irridescent sequin in the centre.  All the snowflakes are held in place with a tiny black brad.  I added a .75 inch strip of black card stock onto which I wrapped a length of white grosgrain ribbon and taped the ends to the back.  This layer was adhered to the card front below the snowflake across the bottom.  The greeting was color printed and punched with the SU Artisan Label punch.  It is adhered over the ribbon with 3D foam tape.

R2G Card Kits - Valentine - Antique Map Heart

I started with the antique map heart.  I used my Cricut with the Folk Art Festival cartridge to cut the solid heart at 3". with a 4" sheet on portrait I was able to cut 4 per 12 inches. I created a gate fold card from kraft card stock.  I scored from each end at 2 1/8".  When I folded the card I made sure I had a bit of a space left in the middle.  The antique map designer card stock is by Gartner - Bon Voyage - Map. It is double sided with solid red on the back.  I cut a .75 x 5.5" strip and adhered it to the back side of the left hand flap leaving at half showing which creates this thin red line when the right hand flap is in place.  I placed adhesive on only one half of the heart and adhered it to the left hand fold. I aligned the centre of the heart over the red line. I think it makes a classy simple card.  The fact that the right hand flap is sandwiched between the red strip and the heart keeps the card closed.  Works well!

Alternative: Turn the heart over and you have a red heart!  It works well on the kraft card.
