Cards - Gold Foil Diecut Sheets

I found some gold foil diecut sheets at the ReUse Center last week.  I decided to make all occasion cards with them.

The challenge with these is that attaching them will be tricky because I do not want to go through the card front.

Love the chevron pattern in this sheet.  Some thick and thin lines.

I chose dark brown card stock in 12x12 which I cut down to 8.5 x 11 inches then in half for a couple of  A2 card bases.

I cut 2 Tim Holtz leaves with the Mover and Shapers dies in my cutting tray.  I used the cut off from the the 12x12 so it matched perfectly.

I used my ancient Maple Leaf punch with some metallic gold card stock.

I ran a length of metallic gold ribbon all the way around the card front taping down the ends where the accent will be.

I used a gold star tiny brad through the leaves then through the card front but not through the ribbon on the inside.  I placed another star brad down at the bottom of the foil sheet.  Added a white quarter sheet liner and white envelope.

As always I try to make some wide and some tall layouts.

With this leafy diecut I chose a red card base, and cut a large flower with the Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers die.  The small flower was cut from the gold foil cardstock.

I placed the dark grey length of cardstock behind the diecut sheet, then made a hole in the center with a push pin.  I added a tiny gold flower sequin, then the smaller gold flower layered onot the larger one through the diecut and through he grey strip.

Once all was held together I adhered the grey strip to the card front with double sided tape. I did add a couple of bling zots behind the foil sheet and the grey card strip to prevent the sheet from pivoting on the brad.

For this card I chose a royal blue card stock. Again, cutting down a 12x12 sheet.

I used my Creative Memories double square punch to create perfectly layered squares.  I added a large flat gold brad onto the square accent.

I added 3D foam tape to adhere the layered squares to the gold foil diecut sheet.  That hid the prongs of the brad.

I then added 3D foam tape on the back of the foil diecut sheet and adhered it to the card front.

The square accent repeats the pattern the diecut which works really well.

This card has a dark green card base and a leafy gold foil diecut.   I layed it in the wide or landscape orientation.

I cut the Tim Holtz Bird on a Branch diecut cut from the left over from the 12x12.

I then cut just the bird from the gold metallic card stock and glued it on top of the green bird.

The gold diecut was adhered to the card front with Quick Dry adhesive with has a very fine tip to apply just a bit of glue on most of the leaves.  Press it down for a minute to have it stay in place.

I then adhered the green bird layer with Bling Zots under the bird and along the branch.  Again, white quarter sheet insert and white envelope.

This card has a black card base cut from the 12x12 sheet.

I used the leftover gold metallic card stock and cut 2 strips which I place behind the gold patterned diecut.

The small metallic flower sequins were adhered to the die cut with Bling Zots which also adhered it to the strips in places. Several behind the bird helped as well.

Then I placed double sided tape to the back of the gold strips and placed it on the card front.

I had allowed the strips to go over the top and bottom edges of the card so I just trimmed those with scissors.

A great set of cards in a pretty quick hurry.

Sylvia"s Simple Shots

The dahlias are in full bloom at the botanic garden.

The sizes vary, the colors are magnificent and it was a pleasure to walk around to photograph a few of them.

This is the Chilson Pride dahlia featuring white and lavender colors.

I spent a couple of hours walking the full length and back.  Of course, most of the flowers are gone as the plants have been dead headed to keep the beds looking good.

I am heading out later in the mornings now that the sun rises later.

A bag full of cards is headed for the Cards for Seniors project organized by one of the scrapbook stores.

I have included cards received from my exchange partners, cards received from family and friends and some of my card kits which I made up to ensure they go to a good cause.

I refurbished those that needed new inserts, added a new card base in some cases and generally did what was needed so they would be useful again.

You may recall in my post last week that I had worked on the chair and tried to clean the seat.  That was not successful so I needed to cover the seat.

My office chair has a new seat cover.

I searched my fabric stash for fabric that would be appropriate.  It needed to be heavy and with the right colors.  I found these one with a paisley pattern with a good variety of colors.  There was close match to the back rest so I proceeded.

I used a piece of paper to trace the shape of the top of the seat.  Cut it out and double checked and tweaked it a bit.  I cut the side piece 4 inches tall to allow for seam allowances both top and bottom.  I had to piece together 3 pieces to get a length of 60 inches.   I sewed the side to the top easing around the corners.  I folded over the bottom edge and sewed it down.  I found some black elastic in my stash which was in several pieces.  I concentrated on the corners but eventually I had enough to cover the full length.  It looks good, it stays in place and it is removable to launder when needed.

I finished this book this week.  Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende.

Eliza Sommers is the central figure who has been adopted by  brothers John and Jeremy and sister Rose who are English. They live in the port city of Valparaiso, Chile in the 1840s. John is a sea captain, Jeremy works for an import company and Rose manages the house.

She has an English upbringing with education, music, ethics and manners instilled.  She falls in love with a young man who came to the house to deliver goods.  It is a hot and heavy affair then he leaves for the Gold Rush in California.   She decides to follow him but must go quickly and quietly so she arranges to stowaway on a ship with the help of a Chinese man, Tao Chi'en.  He is a physician who has his reasons to be on a ship.  They disguise her as a boy to get her off the ship and she continues that persona in San Francisco. They establish themselves there, Tao Chi'en a physician and Eliza as companion and assistant.

She decides to pursue her search for her lover in the midst of the gold rush and the chaos that it has created.  She travels with groups for safety and follows leads when she can.  She finds herself in an outskirt town and meets up with Joe Bonecrusher's travelling caravan of prostitutes and ends up travelling with them as cook and piano player.  Eventually, she realizes she does not love him anymore.  She continues to write to Tao Chi'en regularly and they maintain their relationship.  The Chinese man misses his assistant and friend.  He decides to go and see her.  He finds her and she decides to give up her search and return to San Francisco with him.  They set up his practice, have small garden to grow medicinal plants, and life is good.   She is tiring of have to pretend to be man, she is exploring her feelings for Tao Chi'en and one day she pulls out the suitcase she took with her on the ship many years ago.  It contains dresses and jewelry.  She decides to dress as a woman with out the corset and asks Tao Chi'en what he thinks.  He doesn't mind the new look and as far as he is concerned she is still who she has always been.  She decides to stick with dresses.   Very soon, after this the bandit, her lover is captured and killed.  His head has been preserved so the bounty could be collected and it goes on display for anyone who wants to see this infamous gangster. They visit to see the face and she declares she is now free.  They work together to save Chinese prostitutes and get them to a network which will give them a way to earn an honest living and a new place to live. Some go to Oregon, back to the East Coast and even some to Canada.

Another great book by this author. Loved it!

Look what I found hanging out a local pond.  I discovered this pond when I took a different road the other day.

It is quite large expanse of water and was covered with ducks, Canada Geese, Lesser Yellowlegs, and this wonderfully grand Blue Heron.

It was reasonably close and a got a much better shot of it this time.

So excited.

I found this heart on a wrought iron gate last week.  I thought it was wonderful.

It was upside down, so I have turned it right side up, applied a watercolor filter to it.

Like it a lot.

A birthday card for my card box for upcoming family birthdays.

I chose a designer paper with a yellow stripe.  I die cut the greeting from a piece of card stock in the same color leaving a good amount below the word.

I trimmed the designer paper to leave a small border on the chocolate brown card base.  I adhered the greeting leaving the same border on sides and bottom edges. It was cut with the Memory Box Grand Happy Birthday die.

I die cut leaves with the Tim Holtz Mini Tattered Leaves set and added some chalk to provide a bit of definition.

Father's Day Card

These supplies are from an old card kit.

The card base is Soft Suede with a rectangular piece of teal designer paper.  It was adhered on an angle and then it was trimmed to the card edge.

I added some leaves cut with the Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves die.  Two in Soft Suede and one gold one.

I added a Stampin Up Decorative Label greeting with color printed words.  I used SU chalks to softly color the greeting in the right colors.  I punched a Soft Suede label which I cut in half and off set behind the greeting.

A card to let my Dad know how much I appreciate him.  I am so glad he is still here with us.

Ready 2 Go All Occasion Stack Kit - Set 04

Angled Rectangle

I started with a ginger card base.

I chose designer paper by Graphics 45 - Communique Collection - On the Dot cut to 4.00x5.25 inches. I laid the designer paper onto the card front at an angle then adhere it.  I trimmed the excess to the card edge with scissors.

I cut the dark brown Decorative Label punchie in half crosswise then trimmed the points off with scissors.  I offset these behind the greeting.   The accent was then adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.
Split Square

I cut a 4 inch square of designer paper into 2 equal triangles by cutting top left hand corner to opposite corner with a paper cutter.   These were glued to the card front aligned to the top and the bottom.   That leaves a nice band of card color on the diagonal.

I wrapped a length of white grosgrain ribbon around the card front and knotted on the front.  Trimmed the ends on the slant.

I assembled the flower accent by putting the small flower then the large flower onto the brad.  Press the prongs apart on the back.

I added the 3D foam tape to the back of the flower accent and adhered it to the card front.

A quarter sheet insert is glued to the right hand side.

 Masculine DSP Split

I selected a deep red brown colored card.

I chose designer paper by Graphics 45 - Communique Collection - On the Dot.  I cut it to 4.00 x 5.25 inches then cut again at 3.5 inches.  Turned the small over and tape to 2 pieces back together.

Wrapped the designer paper layer with brown grosgrain ribbon and taped the ends to the back.  Adhered to the card front.

Assemble the leaf accent and adhered to the front with 3D foam tape.

Leaf Birthday Card

I started with a brown card base.

The designer paper is by Authentique - Seasons - Autumn Three.  It was trimmed to leave a small border.

I cut several leaves with the Tim Holtz Mini Tattered Leaves Set of Movers and Shapers.  I cut beige, copper and warm green ones which I chalked with warm colors.

I wrapped a piece of yellow rick rack on the left side of the designer paper and taped the ends to the back. I glued the leaves along the rick rack with double sided tape.

I added a Stampin Up Decorative Label greeting which edges were chalked as well.  It was adhered with 3D foam tape.
