Friday's Hunt 1.26

I'm joining Teresa at Eden Hills with her Friday's Hunt challenge this week.

Prompts are:
- Starts with Z
- Week's Favorite
- Today

Starts with Z:
I start with a photo I took of one of the zebras at the zoo.  He was eyeing me very carefully but he stayed still and I got a good shot.

Week's Favorite:
This is a shot of the drapes on the windows at the wedding reception.  The color was a really nice blue which made me think of water.  The fabric was shiny which created wonderful highlights.  It will make a great background or texture picture on future projects.

Today:

Here's a shot of the wedding cake at the reception I attended. The bride's favorite color is purple.  I understand the gal who made the cake is just starting out.  The cake was delicious and she did a great job of decorating!

Friday's Hunt 1.22

These photos are for Friday's Hunt challenge.

The prompts this week are:
Starts with V
Favorite
Sunshine

This is Vintage Linen.  This is one of a set of three Vintage Doilies I found recently at a sale.  I loved the embroidery of a blue basket filled with pink flowers. It has a wonderful crocheted edge.

This is captured Sunshine.  I have several prisms in my living room window.  When I open the curtains in the morning the sunshine highlights bouncing around the room as the crystals move and swing.  I captured one of these on the cushion of the chair.  The colors are all there!! Love it.

This is a photo of a lake in Northern Ontario.  There are just a million of them.  There seems to be one on every corner.  This is my favorite for this week.

Friday's Hunt 1.20

I took these shots for the challenge of Friday's Hunt.

The prompts are:

Favorite
Evening

This is a plate of Three potato pancakes for lunch.  I added a dab of sour cream on each pancake topped with a bit of cilantro.  A side of kimchi for a bit of great flavor.

My favorite is a blue iris blooming in one of the flower beds on my walk this morning.  Love the yellow in the centre and the fuzzy on the petal on the right.

The lamp post outside whose lights are on once the sun has set.   I guess there is a trio of lights in this photo as well.

Friday's Hunt 1.19

I'm submitting photo's to Friday's Hunt which is a challenge hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.  The prompts this week are:
1. Starts with S
2. Week's Favorite
3. smile

I've brought out the sewing machine.  I am working on a project which I will post once it's complete.  I have fabric, twill tape, and thread in the assorted colors.  The plan is has not come together yet.

My favorite shot this week are this pair of geese swimming and toddling in the pool at the park.  The water is just a few inches deep so every once in a while they would stand and were in water only half way up their legs.  With the warm temperatures here and the severe lack of rain it's been a blessing to the animals that the city filled this pool.

Here's the pot of herbs I received at the Welcome to my Kitchen hosted at my house in April.  It is cilantro and I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like but it has grown some since I received it.  It has new different looking leaves which I take as a good sign. Here's a photo of the mature plant. That makes me smile because I don't really have much of a green thumb so to have be still green is great.

You can check out what it looked like a month ago in this posting.

Friday Hunt 1.18

I took some shots on my walk this morning with Friday Hunt in mind.  The prompts are
Starts with R
Favorite
Texture

This is a Ram on the front of a really nice blue Dodge truck.  I love the silver and blue contrast and the graphic quality of the image.
I'm glad it's pretty clean but I have to admit I didn't check closely before I took the shot.

There were several pigeons on my walk but this one stood still long enough for me to get a good shot of it.  I love the way the eye stands out with it's orange coloring.

I love the way each stone block has texture but also the combination of many of them together in this wall also has texture.  The pine spruce boughs also provide a contrast in texture next the to the wall.

Friday's Hunt 12

I'm joining Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills. The prompts this week are:
Start with L
Favorite
Lace

I took a shot of a glass lamp my niece made for me many years ago.  I have never filled it but it is beautiful.  It came with the copper star base.  It repeats the star theme as you can faintly see the star etched above the peace.

This dish is my favorite photo this week.  I attended a Vintage Sale yesterday and bought myself this little glass dish.  It catches the light well with so many glass pebbles on the under side.  The dish I have been using is divided so I needed when I can't fill all the spaces in the divided one.  It has traces of gold on the edge but it's pretty much all gone. I placed it on one of my blue plates and put a few blue/green glass gems in the center to create a focal point.

I dug through my small box of lace and found this one with a heart motif.  I placed the white border lace on a black cloth to have the details visible.

Friday's Hunt 11

I'm submitting these to Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.
The prompts are Starts with K, Favorite and Flower.

This is one of the Ks I have in my Alphabet Photography collection.

This another of the umbrellas at the Conservatory.  I think it's a daisy but it must be the lighting that makes it look purple to me.  They were hung from the ceiling and really made the space look great.

There were several others more brightly colored which will show up in other posts.   You can see the sunflower in this post.

This is my favorite shot for this post.

This is a flower I took on my trip to the Conservatory.  I thought the open centre with the flowerlets all the way around was very graphic.  As you can see in the centre the flowers are coming to eventually create a nice full bunch.  As it's early in the season we have the in between stage which I captured.

Friday's Hunt 10

I'm joining Friday's Hunt hosted by Terese at Eden Hills. The prompts are Starts with J, Favorite and A Cuppa.

Starts with "J". Its a Jug. I took a picture of my jug of water.  To make sure I drink enough water every day I fill this jug and leave it on the counter.  Hopefully by the end of the day it's empty and I have had my 8 glasses of H20 for the day. It does not always work out.

This is my favorite shot of the week. At my visit to the Conservatory I took this shot of the Prickly Pear Cactus with it's purple fruit which are filled with seeds. The leaves and fruit are edible once the spines are removed. Leaf pads are eaten as a vegetable. Fruit are eaten raw and used to make juice, jelly and candy.  I was excited to see the new green shoot growing which means spring has to be around the corner.

This is this morning's cuppa of tea. It's Rooibos (Red) Chai tea with some honey and cream.  I'm having it in a stoneware mug featuring blue with painted organics below the border.  This was a gift from a friend.

Friday's Hunt 1.9

I'm submitting this to Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.

The prompts for this week are:
Starts with "I"
Favorite
Blue

I have to say that I was a bit stumped with "I" so I pulled out the dictionary for inspiration.  I chose inch.  This is a clear ruler of which I took a picture of one inch.

This week's Favorite.  I have owned this mug for several years.  It was one of the freebies at my Steeped Tea party a couple of years ago.  It sat in a box till this weekend, when I discovered it during some indepth decluttering. I opened the box to remind myself what was inside and imagine my surprise when it was a turquoise mug because since I've owned the mug I have selected this blue for my dinnerware.  Now it fits in perfectly so it is this week's favorite.

I have been looking for containers to organize my tea collection.  I found these at the thrift store.  The labels had coffee names in them so I get the impression that they originally held flavored coffee.  After a clean up, they now hold tea bags in 3 types: Green, Earl Grey and Chamomile.  These are teas I always have on hand. The lids were not tight enough for loose tea.  I'm really happy with these.  I will pair them with my Tazo Tea tins which still have to have their labels removed.  That is a lot of work.

See I'm too late but you still check out the links.

Friday's Hunt 1.8

I'm submitting this to Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.

The prompts are:
Starts with H
Favorite
Family

H is for honey.  I took a photo of my honey jar with golden yellow sticky stuff.  It's a large, heavy and clear glass jar with a lid with a space for the honey dipper.  Of course the honey dipper needs to be yellow.  This is my second one as I melted the first one when I was melting honey in the microwave.  I've learned my lesson.

This is my favorite image of the week.  I had to go downtown this week so I took some time to shoot some city images.  I love the reflection of blue sky on the glass windows of this building.  I liked the angles and the square spaces.  The contrast of lights and darks works very well.

This is a shot I have shared before.  My sister and I were out on a photo shoot near a lake where she lives.  It was summer and the sun was shining bright.  I grabbed this shot of our shadows.  I added the Sisters quote.  She is part of my large family and I really enjoy spending time with her.

Friday's Hunt 1.7

I'm submitting this post to Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.

The prompts are:

Week's Favorite
In my kitchen

This is Gluten-Free Cheese Cake which I served during tea with a friend this week. I was able to buy just 4 pieces and it seems the crust is made with nuts which contributes to it's gluten free status. This is the leftover piece which is New York Style cheese cake.  We ate the chocolate pieces during tea.

I made whole wheat cheddar cheesy tea biscuits today. With Valentine's around the corner I chose to cut a few in heart shapes.  I added one to my chicken noodle soup for supper. I chose this shot as this week's favorite.

Here's a shot of the tea biscuits cooling on a rack on the kitchen counter while the second tray is baking.  I cut a couple with my Steeped Tea teapot cookies cutters.  I cut the hearts with my trusty Tupperware cookie cutters. You can see how small the heart ones, perfect for dipping in soup.

Friday's Hunt 1.6

Submitting these to Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.  The prompts are F, Favorite and Negative Space.  Looks like I missed the deadline for the link up. Enjoy the pics.

I chose this photo for Fence.  I like the dark fence in the foreground with the low sun in the sky putting the trees in silhouette.  It's a nice warm toned image.

I loved this image of a chickadee at the bird feeder just ready to alight.  Wings and tail feathers spread wide.  I stood in snow up to my shins in gale force winds for about 15 minutes at least till my hands were so cold I just had to quit.  I had to stand still so the birds would some around to the feeder again after I arrived.  I usually take them from the front room window but with the larger camera I don't have the same distance in the zoom of the lens so I had to get physically closer.  Of course, I didn't know what shots I had before I brought them to the computer.  This is my favorite of those taken on Saturday.

I'm using this one for negative space. This is a cloud which had the sun dog shining in it or through it a few minutes earlier.  I had to stop the car, take out the camera and focus and thus missed the rainbow colors in the cloud.

Friday's Hunt 1.5

I'm joining Friday's Hunt 1.5 where the prompts are start with the letter E, Favorite, Sky.

I chose Egg for the letter E.  Eggs are smooth, oval and perfect.  I nestled it in some brown rice in a small rectangular china dish. I imagine it's designed for condiments or sauces.  I used my sunflower hot spot as a background.  You can check out another egg photo I took a while ago.

Favorite: Grapefruit is one of my favorite fruit.  They are in season and reasonably priced these days.

I repeated the circular theme by surrounding the fruit with lavender loose leaf tea onto a white round ironstone plate.  The white plate was on a gold charger plate but I ended up cropping that.

I love this shot in late fall.  The sky is so animated with a storm rolling in.  The sun was setting and putting light on the far hills.  In the foreground, there are birds on the water as they prepare to migrate.  Unfortunately, power lines are pretty much unavoidable but are quite subtle in this shot.

Friday Hunt 1.4

This is a dictionary I brought home from my parent's house this weekend.  It's time to clear things from their home and my sister and I have decided to divide this very old book.  I do not do this lightly as I consider books very special.  I thought I would at least try to document it a little.  I will do more research and update once I have more.  It is the photo for my "D" word.

I took this photo of a church on my drive home.  It is my favorite shot this week.  and could count for the sky as well as it was not bright at all.
The third prompt this week was Beautiful.  Sorry!

Update: What I have found is that the dictionary dates from 1945 that makes it over 70 years old.

Friday Hunt V1.3

C is for Coffee Spoons - I've been looking for some small silver plate spoons to use while I serve tea.  These can be used to stir tea in a tea cup, serve jam or jelly, or to add sugar to the tea. When I went through my Mom's collection I kept my baby spoons and one from on a trip my Mom and I took many years ago.  I had hoped to find several in a similar simple pattern and a recent trip to the thrift store delivered.
The left one is made by 1847 Rogers Bros, the pattern is First Love, and it's a coffee/demi tasse spoon which is smaller than the tea spoon. The pattern was manufactured from 1937 to 1973 which makes the spoon at least 43 years old.  I got 11 of them so that will be enough for my needs.
The centre one is by Oneida Community silver plate, pattern is Affection and the pattern was produced starting in 1960.
The right one is made by Viners of Sheffield - England, pattern is VS34, and not sure when it was made.

My favorite is a glass tile I bought a thrift store.  I loved the image of doors and a tile floor. It's glass on ceramic I think.  There's no tag or any documentation so I'm at a loss.  It's shiny and really pretty.

Inside: It is very cold outside and I have been feeling under the weather. This is the corner on my sofa where I spent some time this weekend. With meds I should be feeling better soon.

Friday's Hunt - V1.1

I'm joining Friday's Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills where we can post photos interpreting the prompts for the week.

The prompts for this week are:
  • Starts with A
  • This week's favorite
  • Celebrate

Starts with A: I chose Alone
I found this horse alone in the paddock.  He's looking at me like "What are you up to?" The frost on the trees was really nice.

This week's favorite:
A wool hot spot which I received this week from my niece (a late Christmas gift).  Sunflowers are my favorite flower and now I will have one sitting on my table all year till my Christmas stuff comes out. I love it!!! The photo was taken on my red Christmas table cloth.

Celebrate:
I took a picture of the Christmas cards I received this year.  Actually, they are not all in the photo because I had more than I could fit on my card holder.  This is something to celebrate that many people wanted to share Christmas greetings. As a card maker that make my heart happy!!!
