2026 Slow Stitching Project - Page 15 - H1

I am following K3N Cloth Tale's 2026 slow stitching project.

The prompt was Hexagon.  She taught a new way to do Hexagon in stitching.  Mine turned out elongated.

I chose a variety of honey colored yellow thread from my ORTs tin.

Make the vertical stitches, offset the second row then wrap between the rows.

She taught a super easy Hexagon accent which I made from golden yellow fabric onto which I  added a Heart Button.  I added a bee button as well to go with the Honey theme.

Slow Stitching - No. 026 - Quilt as you Go (QAYG) Hexagons and Applique Dots

Another week with Kathryn at K3N Cloth Tales and her slow stitch challenge.

Week 26 - half way point in the challenge and the year.  The prompt this week is inspired by the QAYG Hexagon at Marion's World and the Applique Dots by Jeri Bellini.

I made my hexagon almost 5 inches across at the widest because I am putting them on quilt squares.

I found the pink fabrics in my stash pretty fast but I had to dig for the dark grey cotton fabric to match the leaves in the printed fabric.

I chose the Fly Stitch with white embroidery floss to go around my circle.  I added a layer of natural batting.  I then placed this onto my dark grey hexagon and folded over the edge over once then onto the front of the printed one.  I pinned each side and but a blind stitch to attach the backer to the front.  I let it sit over night and this morning I decided to add French Knots on the polka dot circle in dark grey floss.   This came together very easily.    If I make another I may applique a flower in the center.

Card - Angled Rectangle

This was the second set of card supplies which lay in a box for a year after COVID cancelled my classes at Compassion House.

A warm Soft Suede A2 card base with a piece of designer paper adhered on an angle and then trimmed to the card edge with scissors.

I created the accent with 3 leaf die cuts made with Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves die.  I adhered them to each as an accent then mounted them to the card front with 3D foam tape.

A taupe card base with hexagonal pattern on the angled rectangle designer paper.

I added a Tim Holtz Mover Shaper Vintage Alarm Clock die cut from gold glitter card stock.

I decided to send the rest of the unmade card kits to Compassion House with a couple of samples so the ladies can make them up during their free time.

I don't anticipate being able to teach classes for a long while yet but I will put together more kits and drop them off.

Sewing Project - Quilt 7 - Blue Hexagons

I finished another small quilt today.  I just loved this fabric when I saw it so I brought it home. 100% cotton.

Finished Size: 39.25" x 48.25"

Front: Original Waverly Bridal Gingham fabric in true blue

Backing: Tone on Tone textured light blue cotton

Batting: Flannelette Sheet

Thread: Navy for the highlight stitching and binding. White for assembly and quilting.

Binding: Navy Blue cotton cut to 2 5/8 inches wide Check out the Fool Proof Quilt Binding video for details.

Binding stitching: Stitch in the ditch.  I pinned very closely and had near perfect capture of the folded edge on the back. A couple of the corners had to redone.

Quilting: I chose to highlight the hexagons on the fabric with navy thread which I stitched on the single layer before assembling the quilt.
I pinned the 3 layers together and stitched in white near the navy line I had done earlier because I did not want dark thread on my light backing.

Lessons Learned:

I loved using the hexagon in the fabric rather than always doing it like I have before.

Better pinning may have doing the binding perfect.

I think the navy stitching on the hexagon is just enough to make them more visible.

Into the box it goes.

Card - Challenge - HB Envelope

I made this card to meet a few challenges.
Designer Paper - I started with the patterned paper by Webster Pages - Kickball.
Envelope - I made the envelope with the Sizzix Scallop Envelope Bigz die by Stampin Up.  I used a watercolored turquoise paper which I warmed up with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Stain because it was too white for the DSP.  I stamped the greeting in warm green with a small SU stamp.
Masculine HB - The colors were quite masculine, so to add to that feeling, I hid the scallop edge of the envelope with a small card which was the same color as the card and just fit inside.   I cut the letters HB with the Sizzix Shadow Box dies in complementary colors of light and dark blue green.
Ribbon - I added a length of caramel seam binding across the DSP which I knotted before I adhered the envelope to the front.

I'm submitting this card to the following challenges:
1. Daring Card Makers - Envelope
2, Hazel's Patterned Paper - February
3. Crazy For Cards - C4C271 - Masculine HB

Challenges - Masculine Hexagons

I started with a white card and I added texture with Vintage Overlay in black and Itty Bitty background in red.  I cut 6 hexagons with a Spellbinder Nestabilities in red, blue and white designer paper.  I placed them in decreasing numbers going to the right.  I added a red Stampin Up! Modern Label with a blue Word Window greeting.  This was added to the card front with 3D foam tape. This is a great scrap buster.
I'm submitting this card for the Come & Get It - Masculine and Crazy 4 Cards - C4C192 Hexagons.
