Sylvia's Simple Shots

I visited the Heritage Hills Wetlands this week on a day where the weather was considerably cooler than a few days ago.

Also, there was not waterfowl to be found.  No Red Winged Blackbirds so I expect they had headed south.  I have not seen any V formations of Canada Geese headed south but I may have missed them.

Considering that it is almost Halloween we have been blessed with a wonderful fall.

I did find this sparrow.

Most of my siblings headed to the Big Mall for a get together, our first since both Mom and Dad have passed.

My sister organized a night out to a dinner theater.  We made time before supper to visit but a pub was not the best venue though it was close by. Dealing with the crowds at the mall were stressful.

The dinner theatre - music was excellent, food was very good, company was great, but I have to say it was a late night for me.

We need to make the effort to continue to get together so I am grateful for the sister who planned and those that attended.

I did manage to get an appointment to get my flu shot and my COVID vaccine this week.   They were just made available this week.

I got the shots in my left arm on Thursday and I did take a pain killer to sleep that night. I did take pain meds another couple of times.

I guess it was at least 3 to 4 days with a sore arm but no other side effects.

I did get my appointment at my regular pharmacy so that was very convenient.

I did get a big grocery shopping trip done before the snow came.

I found these dishes on sale at the grocery store and decided that I would get a set of 2 cups and plates since they were under $1 each. The color is marked as wheat.

I added a nice glazed gourd and a small shiny glazed bowl. I believe this color was sunflower or something like that. That would have been the preferred color but there were no cups left in that line of dishes.

Just another option for hosting a friend for tea.

I decided to try my hand with a dip pen.  It has been on my mind for a while and Inktober came across my feed on Flickr I decided to try it. Inktober is a yearly event where drawing is encouraged.

I did have to unpack my liquid inks to give this a try.  I cleaned some nibs and got started.

I really have no idea what I am doing.  I just created marks on a piece of card stock.

I have view a few videos since this attempt and found better nibs in my stash.

It's just a relaxing time.

Share Your Cup #209

Sunflower Tile Framed

You will see my original plan on this post.  I was not able to get the existing tile from the frame so I just purchased another frame.

I removed the print and glass from this one.  I painted the back board with Blue Velvet acrylic paint so that the tiny gap between the tile and frame would not show.  I also painted the edge of the tile with the same paint.  I then dry brushed the same paint onto the frame to create a distressed look.

I am happy with how it turned out and it is hanging in my kitchen.

I have had the small blue saucers and the large plates for quite a while.

Yesterday, I found salad plates and cups to match.  I was very happy.  They will allow me to create tablescapes with more pieces. They work very well with my Myott The Hunter salad plates which are just a bit smaller.  The white plate with scallop edge is IKEA.

Here is a few flower shots taken after completing my photo shoot for the 2017 Tea Calendar.  I had gathered flowers for the calendar shoot and when I was done with that process I said to myself  "I should take some shots of these lovely flowers."  So I did.  A white aster, a pink rose and a deep raspberry zinnia.

Share Your Cup - Pretty Things

Isn't life time replacement guarantee pretty rare these days. Well Tupperware still has one!
I had to get some replacement pieces as some of my Tupperware containers had cracked and broken.  Several pieces could not be replaced so I got credit.  What to buy?  After a browse through the catalog I saw several pieces in Salt Water Taffy which reminded me very much of my blue dishes.  I still have my original yellow set of measuring cups from several decades ago but I thought why not a new set in this gorgeous color! I got the snack set in the same color. They will fit into my tablescaping very nicely. Done!

I got 10 clear napkin rings in with some crystal glass pieces I will show you in later post.  I thought they may have been glass but alas no!
Oh well you win some you lose some.  They are very pretty and go with any decor.  I guess you do need to have cloth napkins to really make them work.

I have been on the hunt for some Masala Chai Tea.  I have visited most tea shoppes in my area.  With a walk to The Tea Girl I picked up some Masala & Himalayan Chai.  The price was reasonable so I will have a try with these two in hopes of being able to buy some locally.  My favorite I have to buy from central Alberta which is not always convenient and quite pricey but it is the best so far.  They refill the tins when you bring them back and offer a discount.

I purchased this long black velvet skirt at the Rummage Sale last weekend.  I have been looking for a piece to help me in my photography.  It absorbs the light so really helps with reflections.  The skirt 37" long and opened up the piece of fabric is 70 inches wide.  That will do really well for my purpose.

A blue tea bag holder in a leaf shape with a round matching saucer.  It has silver gilding along the outside edge.  Several holes in the centre to allow the tea to drain.  Goes well with my navy mugs. Love it!!

Happy Day - Feeling Better - Celebrating

I'm celebrating today because after 2 weeks of being under the weather I'm finally feeling better.  I was out for a bit last night and headed to the Thrift Store for some badly needed sweat pants.  I always check for yellow mugs/cups when I'm there and there it was! I took it as a good sign.  Yellow and big are two things I look for in a cup.  This morning I have my favorite - Chai Spice Tea.  Check my next blog post for another great find.
