Miniature Watercolors into Cards

I was inspired by a photography challenge to produce some art and I chose watercolor.

I opened a pad of water color paper bought at a scrapbook store. There is no indication of the weight of the paper so I was not getting my hopes up.

I cut down a sheet about letter sized into 4 smaller pieces.  Some square and others not.  I pulled out my Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Crayons so I can match it will card stock later.

This one is a bit of a landscape with a tree, flowers, the sun and a few birds flying in the sky.  The paper worked really well in this small size.

I paired it with a piece of Bashful Blue leaving a tiny border and ripped the bottom edge.  I mounted that onto a piece of Passion Pink card base.  Stamped a greeting with Old Olive with a set of small clear stamps. I spattered the card once it was finished.

This next card features just a little watercolor using the wet in wet technique.  I sprayed the entire paper with clean water.  I then dropped spots of color - Rich Razzleberry, Regal Rose, Marina Mist and Old Olive. You can see where the colors mixed in place to produce a purple.

I was going to define the pinks as flowers but I was happy with the composition so chose to stop.  I dried it with my heat gun and signed the bottom.  It was spattered with a bit of green.

I cut a banner of Bashful Blue and mounted it across an Elegant Eggplant card base.  Stamped the greeting again in the Old Olive color.  The watercolor was adhered to the card front with 3D foam tape.

I started the composition with flowers in mind. I dropped the Regal Rose pink with a bit of Daffodil Yellow and the soft green of Old Olive in the background.  It was dried with the heat gun.

I then used a black Micron Permanent Black Marker and drew my flower petals and leaves.  I chose to add a bit more color to the leaves and petals.

I mounted it to a piece of Regal Rose and ripped the left hand edge.  I stamped a several butterflies on the left hand side.

This layer was adhered to a Garden Green card base.
Each card has a white quarter sheet insert on the inside.

Sunflowers are in full bloom around here these days.  I love them.

This is my attempt on a sunflower against a pale blue sky.  I used some More Mustard and Daffodil Delight in the flower and Always Artichoke with Old Olive in the leaves. I mixed the brown for the center.

It was spattered with much watered down Old Olive once it has been dried with the heat gun.

Again layered on a piece of Bashful Blue ripped on the right hand side. Stamped the greeting in Old Olive.

The thank you ones will be donated to Compassion House and the others will be added to my card box.

It was a lot of fun!

Cards - Thanks

Another few cards for Compassion House.

This is reusing a small thank you card. The words are silver foil.

I just swiped a bit of watercolor in yellow across the words. Then I paired it with a deep yellow card.

I added a yellow handmade paper flower in the top left hand corner held in place with a silver flower sequin and a silver tiny brad.

This layer was then adhered to the front of the card.

I reused a nature print I did a long time ago.  This is a maple leaf print using a variety of acrylic paints - brown, red, yellow and orange.  Once dry, I spritzed it with orange red watercolor.

I paired it with a warm red card base.  The nature print was adhered to the card front.

I added an oval color printed greeting in warm orange tones and punched out with the 2" oval.

A deep brown card with a designer paper layer of warm blue grey stripes. I wrapped a length of ivory grosgrain ribbon and tape the ends to the back. This was adhered to the card front.

I added the scallop circle greeting in ivory and warm blue grey.  The punches are all Stampin Up - scallop circle, 1 3/8 and 1 1/4 inch circles.  This was mounted with 3D foam tape.

I arranged the 3 hexagons and adhered with double sided tape.  Cut with the SB Hexagon Nestablities.

Card - Angled Rectangle

This was the second set of card supplies which lay in a box for a year after COVID cancelled my classes at Compassion House.

A warm Soft Suede A2 card base with a piece of designer paper adhered on an angle and then trimmed to the card edge with scissors.

I created the accent with 3 leaf die cuts made with Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves die.  I adhered them to each as an accent then mounted them to the card front with 3D foam tape.

A taupe card base with hexagonal pattern on the angled rectangle designer paper.

I added a Tim Holtz Mover Shaper Vintage Alarm Clock die cut from gold glitter card stock.

I decided to send the rest of the unmade card kits to Compassion House with a couple of samples so the ladies can make them up during their free time.

I don't anticipate being able to teach classes for a long while yet but I will put together more kits and drop them off.

Cards - Acrylic Ink Backgrounds - Thanks

Another few cards with those acrylic ink backgrounds.

This one is deep burgundy with yellow spots.

I printed the greeting from the Stampin Up You're Lovely Stamp set and cut with the Stampin up Sizzix Deco Labels Framelits Dies.  I colored with flowers with brush markers.

This was mounted on a black card base with 3D foam tape behind the greeting.

A similar background with a flower accent.

I chose a magenta card base.

I cut the greeting with the Cricut and the Don Juan cartridge from terracotta textured card stock.

I punched a Stampin Up Five Petal flower from the same card stock.   I layered this with a salmon color handmade paper flower with an ivory silk flower.  It is held in place with a magenta brad layered with a flower sequin.

I chose a yellow card base for the green acrylic ink background.

I punched 3 SU Five Petal flowers from pearl white card stock. I added pale yellow handmade paper flowers and small flower sequins.  The flowers are held in place with tiny green brads.

The greeting is cut with the Don Juan Cricut cartridge at 1" Tall.  It is mounted with 3D foam tape.   All of these have a blank white insert.

Cards - Thanks - Cricut

I wanted to use the rest of the acrylic ink backgrounds I made for these cards so I did not have leftovers hanging about.

I searched my Cricut cartridges to see which had "thank you" greetings.   I found this one in the Don Juan cartridge. The size of the letters were wide enough for me to put 3D foam tape behind them so I went for it.

This was cut at 1.5" tall and 4.75" wide. I trimmed the background to fit leaving an even border all the way around on a true blue A2 card base.

Adhered the background and added a bling heart in the top left hand corner.

I chose a yellow A2 (4.25" x 5.5") card base for this card.

I chose five small handmade paper flowers held in place with green tiny brads.

I adhered the greeting with 3D foam tape.

It was spattered with the Chartreuse Leaf green ink.

Again, a medium blue card base in A2 size.

Trimmed the acrylic ink background and adhered it to the card front.

I placed a small silver butterfly in the top left hand corner with a Bling Zot.

Spattered with Prussian Blue ink.

I will have to find a place to donate these. Maybe Compassion House.  Done!

2020 Cardmaking - CH - Class 2

I chose the Angled Rectangle as my layout for my card making session at Compassion House tonight.

The designer paper is cut to 4.00 x 5.25 inches. I layed it on the front of an olive card till I was happy with the layout. I adhered it then trimmed it to the edges of the card.

I used one of the triangles cut from the edges as an accent along with a white silk flower, an aqua handmade paper one and a white sequin all held in place with a tiny blue brad.

I have built in a lot of variety in the kits for this class so not any of the cards are the same.

This is a versatile layout as it works tall or wide.

I chose a teal card for this designer paper. This one has a greeting in the form of a Stampin Up Modern Label greeting in the top right hand corner.  It is adhered with 3D foam tape.

The accent is a dark teal circle with a yellow star die cut on top.  It repeats the pattern in the designer paper. It is also mounted with 3D foam tape.

The inserts in on the inside are blank.

This one started with a brown card to work with the scratch pattern in the designer paper by Bo Bunny - Back to Backs - Gift of Love

I added a Modern Label greeting in the bottom left hand corner.

A Tim Holtz Old Jalopy die cut in the top right hand corner.

Makes a great card for the guys in our lives!

Thank You Cards - Compassion House

I worked on my Thank You cards for Compassion House which I will deliver next week.

These are mainly DSP Split lay outs with a variety of greeting styles.

This one is red and grey designer paper in stripped and geometric. Paper cut to 4.00 x 5.25 inches then cut again at 3.5 inches. The smaller piece turned over and taped back into one layer.

I added white grosgrain ribbon across the join then adhered to the front of a deep grey card.

I added a scallop greeting in red and white with grey text.  The greeting is adhered with 3D foam tape.

Some are leftover kits from the class at the house.

Looking forward to my class.

2020 Cardmaking - CH - Class 1

I am back to doing card making session at Compassion House.

I have availed myself of a couple of stack kits but I needed a few more kits because I have more than average number of ladies registered.

I started with designer paper by Fancy Pants Designs - Sidewalk.  I cut it to 4.00 x 5.25 inches then cut again at 3.5 inches.  Flipped the small piece over and taped the pieces back together.

Added an aqua grosgrain ribbon across the join  of the designer paper and taped the ends to the back.  This layer was adhered to the front of a pink card.

I added am accent made with a white silk flower, an aqua handmade paper flower, a white sequin and an aqua brad.  I created a hole in through the card front with a push pin and push the prongs through and spread the prongs apart on the inside of the card.

I added a full half sheet blank insert.  The paper with it's great colors allowed for a variety of card base colors.

The card on the right uses designer paper by My Mind's Eye - Kate & Co - Cambridge Court - Medallion Paper.

This one was paired with hot pink grosgrain ribbon and a medium teal card base.

The same flower accent.  With no greeting makes an all occasion card.

2019 Cardmaking - CH - Class 9

I am back to leading card making classes at Compassion House.  Of course November means Christmas cards.

I am recycling small square Christmas cards.  I trimmed the card to 3.75 inches.

I added a layer of white card stock cut to 4 inches and layered that behind the main layer.

The card base was cut to 4.25 x 11 inches then folded with it at the top.  The silver blue layer was adhered to the navy card base aligned at the top of the card leaving a small border with 3D foam tape.

A length of white grosgrain ribbon was wrapped around the card front and tied on the front.  The ends were trimmed on a slant with scissors.

This card is the same card pieces but put together in a different layout.

I started with a warm grey card base.

I added a Stampin Up Ballet Blue layer cut to 4.00 inches square.

The silver blue layer was trimmed to 3.75 inches.

I chose red grosgrain ribbon which was wrapped around the card base and tied in the front. Ends trimmed with scissors.

The card base is Stampin Up Ballet Blue.

The 4 inch layer is silver metallic card stock.

The ribbon is metallic silver.

Each has a seasonal quarter sheet insert which is glued to the inside.

Loving the colors, the layout and nice and cheery cards.

I had 5 great ladies in this class and all the kits were made.  Wonderful.

Making the kits in the same layout really helped the process.

Thank You Cards - Compassion House

I am delivering some thank you cards to Compassion House today.

Another DSP Split with an oval greeting where I offset a yellow one behind it!    Another with pink tones!

A recycled butterfly card which was trimmed to fit the front of the card.  A card with a bit of a masculine theme with the old Jalopy in the bottom right hand corner.

I made up some old card kits to get them out of the house.  These were originally birthday cards so I added an oval Thank you greeting with 3D foam tape and voila another card to go.  I trimmed these watercolored glitter cards to fit on the A2 sized card and layered with a colored layer onto a black card.

Welcome to my Kitchen & Card Making

We had our ladies fellowship group meeting today.  I forgot my camera so I don't have photos of the delicious food we were served.  I bring my own tea these days as I am drinking caffeine free.  One of my favorites is Bengal Spice by Celestial Seasonings.  I have been adding one of these and a Rooibos tea bag and steep them together.  I add a bit of honey and cream and it works.

Not the same as my favorite black tea which is Masala Chai from Chai Wallahs.

I hope they design a Rooibos version because the flavor is the best.

Following our time of fellowship a couple girls stayed and we made cards.  One girl had bought an All Occasion Stack Kit and the other brought a Christmas Stack Kit she purchased last year but did not put together.

I started some Thank You cards for when I visit Compassion House in November.

I started with a Soft Suede card base.

I added some designer paper measuring 4.25x5.5 inches.

I added a warm teal label cut with the Stampin Up Apothecary Framelits.

Then I placed an oval cut with Nestabilities of a ship on the seas.

The greeting is warm teal as well which was color printed on ivory and punched with the SU Decorative Label punch which was adhered with 3D foam tape.

I started with a dark warm teal card base.

I added a couple pieces of designer paper in a warm Bermuda Bay color.  I had some nice texture on it.  They were adhered to the top left and bottom right of the card front.

I added an aqua circle onto which I mounted a white silk flower held in place with a gold glitter star brad.  It was placed to overlap the DSP pieces.

I added a greeting printed in warm green tone and punched with a circle punch.  It was adhered with 3D foam tape.

I added 3 gold flower sequins on the bottom edge of the left designer paper piece.  These are held in place with Bling Zots.

I started with a royal blue card base.

I added a piece of Serendipty paper in blue tones which has been embossed with the a swirl folder.  I placed it aligned on the left.

The greeting was color printed then I ripped the top and bottom edge and adhered it to the card front with 3D foam tape.

I added a green raffia bow along the right edge of the serendipity layer.  It is held in place with a tiny gold brad.

The card on the below has similar pieces just put together a little differently.  The Serendipity layer was adhered along the bottom edge.

The greeting was color printed, cut square and adhered to the right hand side.

I added a piece of navy seam binding and trimmed the edges.
